JOHN DAVID (DAVE) HAYS JR. It is with great sadness we announce the death of Dave Hays on November 3, 2013, at the age of 62 years. Dave will be deeply missed by his wife Toni, daughter Rochelle (Andie) Spence, son Zack Cook, grandchildren Darrion and Gypsie, and his sister Jean-Anne Hays. His sister-in-law Bonnie and brother-in-law Ken Doerksen, brother-in-law Raymond Nowicki, brother-in-law Earl Nowicki, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends, also mourn his passing. Dave was predeceased by his parents John and Doreen Hays. Dave was born in Winnipeg on July 31, 1951 and attended school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, London, Ontario, and Wainwright, Alberta. He also attended school in Germany where his father was posted. Dave grew up as an army brat which involved frequent moves across Canada as well as moves to Soest and Hemer in Germany. After high school, Dave joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served in Search and Rescue, and as a Communications Specialist in northern Canada. When Dave moved back to Winnipeg he was first employed by the Manitoba Liquor Commission, and then at Canada Post, where he worked for 17 years and from which he retired in 1989. Dave and Toni met at Canada Post where Dave, always the romantic, convinced Toni to join him in union activities. For many years, he faithfully served the members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers as a shop steward, grievance officer and 2nd Vice President responsible for health and safety. In June 1991, Dave and Toni married at Miles Canyon just outside of Whitehorse in the Yukon. Dave thoroughly enjoyed many hobbies including reading, astronomy, fishing, and photography. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and his dogs Rex and Lucy at his property, " Hays-E-Days Acres" near Seddons Corner. In accordance with Dave's wishes no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a no kill animal shelter would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the fire and paramedic service, as well as the doctors, nurses and technicians at Seven Oaks Hospital for their caring and compassion. So sorry to hear of David's passing. Glad Auntie Doreen wasn't here to experience the loss of her son. I saw very little of David as an adult which sadly seems to be how things often go. It was always nice when we did see each other. We did have some good times at family gatherings when we were young though. I always enjoyed David. Glad he seemed happy in his life and had a family. So sorry for you that you have lost him so early. Jean-Anne, we are thinking of you too - you have had a lot of losses in a short time. Take care. - Posted by: Robyn McCombe (cousin) on: Nov 09, 2013

We have many great memories of time spent with Dave. Bike rides, boat rides, even car rides. Remembering the first time I saw the man with "big hair". Along with our daughters we will treasure these moments we had with Dave. RIP our dear brother. - Posted by: Barb & Al () on: Nov 09, 2013
