Edith was born in Winnipeg to Francis and Amelia Anderson. After her schooling she worked at the Canadian National Railway where she met and married Arthur Whitworth. Edith is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, her children Susan (Ted) Carruthers and Roger (Linda) Whitworth; her grandchildren Trevor (Kim) and Dan Carruthers, Allison and Mark Whitworth; and her great-grandchildren Camrynn and Lacey Carruthers. She is also survived by her brother Frank (Win) Anderson of Grande Prairie, Alberta, 10 nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Edith was predeceased by her sisters and their husbands, Dawn and Ernie Cropp, Frances Priscilla "Dill" and Harry Needham and Mildred "Moody" and Bill Hanna. Longtime residents of Fort Garry, Art and Edith have resided for the past two years in Tuxedo where they have enjoyed the companionship of many wonderful new friends. Special thanks to the staff at Victoria Hospital, especially Dr. Permak and Dr. Sharkie for their compassionate care. In keeping with Edith's wishes cremation has taken place and a private memorial service was held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to Mr.Whitworth and all of his family. Mrs. Whitworth was one of my favourite customers and I always looked forward to seeing her in the days before they no longer drove. She was always so cheery and often loaned me a book that I could enjoy and then return on their next visit. It was truly my pleasure to receive her always cheerful phone calls and take care of her and Mr.Whitworth's orders - I will miss her. - Posted by: Gail Anema (Pharmacy team member) on: Nov 24, 2013

  • Art, Roger & Susan Sorry we could not get to be with you at the funeral, but we could not get the time of service. However our prayers and thought have been with you all and the wonderful years we were privileged to have known and worked with Edie. - Posted by: Cecil & Patsy Grant (Friends) on: Nov 22, 2013

  • I have fond memories of both your mom and dad shopping at my Fort Garry store, Pasta and More. On more than 1 occasion Roger and Linda would have me deliver a meal for their anniversary or birthday. I enjoyed my visits with them as they were always happy and full of energy. Please accept my condolences. - Posted by: Susan Belanger (Neighbourhood friend) on: Nov 17, 2013

  • My condolences to Art and family on the loss of Edith. My dad Kass has known you for years, and I bowled with all of you many years ago and had a blast. Dad is living peacefully at Riverview these days but I know that he would send his heartfelt condolences but as his memory isn't like it used to be since the accident, I am offering condolences from both of us. - Posted by: Leslie Eskra (Friend) on: Nov 16, 2013
