GUY PAUL OUIMET Peacefully, quietly and in the tender embrace of his loving family, on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Guy Paul Ouimet left us at the age of 58 years. Guy's precious memory will be cherished by his wife Marilyn; daughter Brigitte, husband Chris A'Bear, Guy and Marilyn's first grandchild Aidan; son Patrick, wife Lisa and their second grandchild Cassidy; parents Lucille and Cyrille; his elder brother Marc and wife, Cynthia, and nieces, Chloe and Del. Guy was born at St. Boniface Hospital February 15, 1955. He grew up and went to elementary and high school in St. Norbert, MB, and was an altar boy and Boy Scout. Guy excelled at sports, particularly volleyball, and was part of several St. Norbert Celtics teams. Guy had the singular distinction (although common in St. Norbert) of graduating high school with numerous classmates with whom he'd started Grade 1. Among those students was Guy's future wife Marilyn, sweetheart and soul mate for as long as he drew breath. Guy and Marilyn had recently attended their 40th anniversary high school reunion, reconnecting with old friends and classmates. Guy attended Red River College, graduated in 1976 with a diploma in Creative Communications, and worked on a number of community publications. Alas a career in journalism was not meant to be and Guy went into sales at MCTR, a record distributor. A lifelong prisoner in the tower of song', Guy was like a kid in a candy store, and ALWAYS had the latest and greatest new releases. The days of the LP were numbered and Guy moved on, joining Bowes Ltd. in 1985 which later became CSP Foods and Dawn Foods, where he remained for almost 30 years. Guy's territory spanned three provinces, and in some cases three generations of customers. Guy's unfailing and unstinting service to his customers started his first day on the job, and continued through to his very last days in hospital. Guy's work came second only to his family... Marilyn was his inspiration, his children Brigitte and Patrick his lifeblood, and his grandchildren Cassidy and Aidan his oxygen. His parents Lucille and Cy passed on to him the same template for a good life they had received from their parents, and Guy has likewise passed it along to his children - his life's work and lasting legacy. Guy and brother Marc were blessed to know their maternal grandparents, Edmond and Regina Dufort, well into adulthood. They were doubly blessed to grow up right down the street from Memère and Pepère, and an endless supply of homemade root beer, peppermints and love. Le Père and La Mère John Ouimet passed away when Guy was in his teens. They lived in the village of Aubigny, MB, the scene of fairy tale Christmas mornings and destination of countless drives featuring ferry crossings in the summer and frozen river crossings in the winter. Guy became a go to guy' when it came to Ouimet family mega-events, and believe me, if it was the Ouimet family it was "mega". There isn't enough room on the page to list all the Ouimet and Dufort aunties, uncles and cousins. Guy was also close to the Leclaires, his unofficial' third extended family. The Reys became Guy's fourth extended family well before he married Marilyn. Beloved mother and father-in-law Rolande and Louis, and brother-in-law Donald have since passed on. Loving brothers and their families Arthur, Jackie, Matthieu and Chris; and Denis, Marjie, Melanie and Colin, as well as dear sisters and families Monique, John, Nicholas, Daniel and Sarah; and Claudette remain to comfort and support Marilyn and the children. Guy was a dyed in the wool "one of the boys", a charter member of the "Rolling Thunder" ball hockey team (Provincial Champions 1980) and founding father of the venerable "Pigs With Wings" hockey pool. If something was happening Guy was in like a dirty shirt...a pickup game of ball hockey at the Ste. Therese Arena (behind the school) ... a cribbage tournament ... a rousing game of Chase The Ace ... Baseball? Let's play two! Guy loved music, amassed innumerable 8-tracks, LP's, cassettes, CD's and finally (dragged kicking and screaming by Marilyn) graduated to iTunes. He attended the legendary Festival Express as well as the very first Winnipeg Folk Festival, travelled far and wide to see the Stones and Bob Dylan. He and Marilyn had recently hosted their first house concert. Now if you add up Guy's devotion to family, dedication to work and love of music, then multiply by a really big number you'll get a sense of his obsession with Les Glorieux, the Montreal Canadiens. He attended "Tuxedo Night" in the old Arena, made a pilgrimage to the fabled Montreal Forum and spent a small fortune on all things Habs. He had the toques. He had the jackets. He had the mugs. His grandkids do not want for Habs-wear. Guy liked to have a good time, and good times seemed to follow him around. He and Marilyn's numerous moving days were must attend' events and their New Year's Eve parties legendary. "Saturday Night Live" came to life at their apartment, and let's not forget the Pictionary marathons. That's probably why Guy opted for an informal gathering for his final farewell to family and friends. Guy touched the lives of many. Marilyn and the Ouimet family invite you to share your memories of Guy with us, and join us in a celebration of his life Saturday, November 30, 2013 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. presentation at Norwood Community Centre located at 87 Walmer St. in Winnipeg. The Ouimet family wishes to thank the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital for their efforts, especially all of our wonderful doctors, nurses and aides who went above and beyond to ensure Guy received the best of care. Your kindness, concern and compassion will never be forgotten. Thank you also to friends and family who have been unfailingly supportive of us during this difficult time. It has meant so much to us. For those who wish to honour Guy with a charitable donation, donations may be made to: St-Boniface Hospital Foundation for Unit 6E or a charity of your choice. • I am truly saddened to hear of Guy's passing. Guy and i worked together for a short period of time, and as Industry competitors/colleagues for a much longer time. Guy was true professional and very well respected in the Baking industry. Our territories were identical and we crossed paths on many an occasion over the years. We shared many similar interests (except hockey teams) and became good friends within the industry. He will be hard to replace if not irreplaceable. • Guy was just one of those people. Funny, charming, charismatic... take your pick. You couldn't help but be affected by his great personality. He always had a quick and witty remark, albeit sometimes pg13 in nature, and he always had time to ask how you've been doing. Like others I was lucky enough to have worked with Guy but I was privileged to know him long before, and kept in touch long after, through some of the (in)famous company parties and family events. I remember he was always available when I needed advice about work (sometimes even if I didn't ask) or if I wanted to chat about hockey. I always had a great amount of respect and quiet admiration for Guy and he will be missed! My sincere condolences go out to Guy's family. - Posted by: Tracy Seymour (Friend) on: Nov 14, 2013

  • My thoughts and prayers to Marilyn, Brigitte and family, Patrick and family and Guy's parents and brother. Working together for 12 years we had many great times and good memories were made. I am sure you will win the hockey pool this year! - Posted by: Donna Smythe (co-worker/friend) on: Nov 14, 2013
