STEWART PROCTER September 21, 1936 - November 10, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce Stewart Procter passed away peacefully at Selkirk & District General Hospital, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lorraine (nee Mathews), son Kurt (Lesley), daughter Katherine Leanne, daughter Tara-Lee Maciuszonek (Artur), and sister Enid Thompson (Walt) of Hawaii. He adored his grandchildren Alyssa, Kael, Malia and Mateusz, and foster granddaughter Gwen. He is predeceased by his parents Hugh and Hazel Procter (nee Stewart) of Woodlands. Stewart was a pillar of the Woodlands community having lived there for all of his 77 years. He was a hard working farmer who cared for his land and animals with dedication and integrity. He had an exceptional work ethic and was always the first one to lend a hand to friends and neighbours. He was the longest serving school bus driver with the Interlake School Division #21 driving for 46 years before retiring. He enjoyed coffee with his many friends following bus in the morning and continued to do so until very recently. He served on the board of the Woodlands Community Hall as secretary treasurer for over 20 years. Stewart always had a twinkle in his eye and a quick smile that would warm anyone's heart. His family was always his priority and he was always there for anyone in need. He loved to fish, garden and spend time with friends and family. Sincere thanks to the staff of Selkirk & District General Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital who provided great care to him. Many thanks to the Home Care staff who provided exceptional care to him during this time. A special thank to Tammy Hueging, Ella Lillies, Margaret Chartrand and Donna Tait whose care and dedication was most appreciated. Funeral services will be held at the Woodlands Community Hall on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9. • My deepest sympathy to Lorraine and family. Only just heard about your loss. Such a great guy--enjoyed so much meeting you all in '98 at the Stonewall Reunion. Hugh was always so proud of Stewart. Kind condolences, Ruth - Posted by: Ruth Jones (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2014

  • I am sorry to hear of Stewart's passing, although considering he had been quite ill, I trust he has now found peace. When I stayed with the Proctor Family, back in my teens, life on the farm was great. Lots of hard work, but seldom was heard a discouraging word. Stewart was a very kind, strong man who was humble and dignified, and he and Lorraine raised a wonderful family, with a lot of love in their home. My deepest sympathies to Lorraine, Kurt, Leanne, Tara-Lee, and the grandchildren. - Posted by: Mathew Craig Fines (friend and relative (of Lorraine's)) on: Dec 11, 2013

  • When I moved to Woodlands 35 years ago, Stewart was the most welcoming, helpful man to me. He gave willingly of his time and experience and I will always be grateful to him and Lorraine for their kindness and open arms. He was a very generous, honourable man. Rest in peace, Stewart; your pain is over. - Posted by: Glenn MacRae (Friend) on: Nov 14, 2013
