DAVID (DUSTY) EDWARD RHODES August 25, 1931- November 11, 2013 With family at his side our Papa passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2013. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his children Paul (Joanne), Victoria, Royal (Christine), Pierre, Belinda and Irene (Ron). Also to mourn his memory are his grandchildren Joel, Paul, Cheryl, Elliot, Alexander, Jennifer, Jessie and Tanysha as well as great-grandchildren, Cameron, Liam, Malliki, Loki, Nicole, Ashlee, Emma and Eric. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Edward as well as by our mother Beatrice and two sons Edward and David. Papa remarried and is also predeceased by his wife Lisa. Papa was born and raised in Winnipeg. He attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate where he enjoyed playing football. Later in life he was an avid Blue Bomber fan. Papa enlisted in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and was stationed in Winnipeg, Germany, Moncton and Shilo. He reached the rank of Sergeant. During his tour of duty Papa met our mother in Paris. She immigrated to Canada and they were married in St. Andrew's Church in Winnipeg. Papa continued his tour of duty with his wife and children eventually retiring and settling in Winnipeg. He opened Charleswood T.V. and later in life a carpet cleaning and supply co. He was also employed at the M.G.E. U. Papa enjoyed life. He loved playing billiards, watching classic movies and had some luck with gambling. He enjoyed meeting people and making friends and sharing stories. In the latter part of his life Papa resided at Poseidon Care Centre. The family would like to thank all the staff who cared for him there. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame (across from Brookside Cemetery), with viewing at 12:30 p.m. It is with heavy hearts that we say to Papa, "bye for now."
