AUDREY IRENE JOHNSTONE Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend passed away peacefully at Grace Hospice with family by her side on November 11, 2013. Mom was born on August 8, 1925 in Fleming, Saskatchewan to George and Elizabeth Haverstock. She was predeceased by her husband Russell who passed away on August 26, 2012. Her 44 years with Russ was pure bliss - they were inseparable. They were in love everyday. Mom is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Wally and Helen Haverstock of Burlington, Russ's sister Louise Simpkins, brother and sister-in-law Vic and Lil Johnstone and sister-in-law Patty Johnstone of Winnipeg, her many cousins including Donna Achorn of East St Paul, Jan Zerr of Langenburg, Saskatchewan, Beverly Barr of Kitchener and many special nieces and nephews. In particular mom had a special relationship for 62 years with her niece Debbie Brent of Burlington. Mom will be sadly missed by her children Greg (Lezlie) Michie, Jim (Gail) Michie, Gary (Dorothy) Johnstone, Craig (Jeanne d'Arc) Johnstone, Brent (Janet) Johnstone, Carol Michie and grandchildren Dana (David) Gillis, Lisa Johnstone, Tara (Cody) Harrison, Mindy (Dave) Garrow, Krista (Rick Baverstock) Michie, Jeff (Stacy) Michie, Felicia (Jonathan Diaczun) Michie, Jamie (Randy) Michie-Bowles, Taryn (Justin) Friesen, Taylor (Stephanie) and Brenlee Johnstone; and great-grandchildren Lexi and Hunter Audette, Shaelan Hills, Charly Garrow, Nate and Macy Baverstock and Rowan, Oliver and Seth Harrison. Mom was a talented artist and was constantly discovering new crafts to give as gifts or sell at the many craft shows she attended. Some of her favourite creations were knit and crochet items, and so many are fortunate to have Audrey's true works of art. Mom had a big heart and volunteered at Middlechurch Home for some 20 years offering comfort and company to the residents and staff. The most important things in her life were her family, friends and church; tirelessly giving and never expecting anything in return. She set a standard for her family and lived by it to the end. Mom loved celebrations with family and especially those weekly Sunday dinners in St. Andrews, she always exclaimed it was her favourite restaurant'. She truly cherished and loved each member of her family, who could do no wrong in her eyes. Mom never seemed to age and was always current, fashionable and young at heart; she exuded so much positive energy that she sparkled. She was a class act and by every sense of the term, a true lady. Her beautiful smile and sense of humour will be remembered by all; to her very last days she radiated beauty, composure and love. Mom had unwavering faith and this spiritual connection brought her strength and peace throughout her life, and especially through these last few months. She was a proud member of Grace Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years. Audrey was one of those special people in life that you never forget. Her light and her sparkle will continue to shine in our memories forever. Our family extends their appreciation to the staff at River Ridge for their quality of care and support; to the caregivers at Seven Oaks Hospital and Grace Hospice for their excellence and for their humanity. A Memorial Service to honour Audrey followed by a reception will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church on 211 Kimberly Avenue in East Kildonan. Pastors Bruce Gelhorn and Courtenay Reedman Parker officiating. Cremation has taken place and interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 in Audrey's name. • I'll always remember Audrey as a kind and welcoming person, as was Russ, although they were always Mr. and Mrs. Johnstone, they both treated us (as kids) with respect. I remember going to the house on Litz Place and always seeing her smiling face at the door even though the place was crawling with kids. Although its been some 40 years or so since then I still have fond memories of both of them...my deepest sympathies on her passing - Posted by: Lloyd Searcy (Friend) on: Nov 14, 2013

  • Thank you so much for the beautiful tribute to Audrey. She was a very special lady to me. I grew up knowing her loving, caring, personality that she showed to everyone that she meet. God Bless your family at this time and always. Love Elaine - Posted by: Elaine Gelhorn (friend) on: Nov 14, 2013
