JOSEPH (JOE) WINTINK
Born: Apr 21, 1921
Date of Passing: Nov 14, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH (JOE) WINTINK April 21, 1921 - November 14, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Gigi, on November 14, 2013 at the Deer Lodge Centre. Joe will be greatly missed by his son Gord, daughter Kathi (Tom), granddaughter Mandy (Mike) and grandson Kris (Kris), extended family and many friends. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Billie and nine brothers and sisters. Joe was born on the family farm in West St. Paul on April 21, 1921. He spent 43 years working for Manitoba Telephone System. In 1941 Dad joined the Army under the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and spent four years of active duty overseas during the Second World War, after which time he returned to work for MTS until his retirement. During Dad's 30 years of retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening (growing those big tasty tomatoes for all to enjoy). One of Dad's favourite pastimes was fixing just about anything. He loved spending time "out at the shop" with Rod and the family. We all learned that there was only one way to do things.....Joe's Way! The family wishes to thank the staff at Parkview Place and the Deer Lodge Centre for their kind and compassionate care during Dad's stay. Special thanks to the Noble family (and Jen) for being such wonderful friends and for all your help and support. We'd also like to thank Susan, for her caring friendship with Dad over the past decade. In keeping with Joe's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joe to his favourite charities, the Canadian Red Cross or Salvation Army or to the charity of your choice. Gord and Family. So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I know he was a great friend of my sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Moe Lannoo. I met him several times while he was helping out at the farm. He will be truly missed by all that knew him. - Posted by: Jill Paskewitz (Clement) (Friend) on: Nov 28, 2013

While I did not have the pleasure of knowing Mr. Wintink personally, my life has benefited greatly from knowing his wonderful daughter. By all accounts he was a kind man, and I have no doubt this is true, as Kathi is one of the most compassionate individuals I know. I very much enjoyed listening to stories of their strong relationship over the years and the wonderful memories Kathi now holds. - Posted by: Linda Deger (friend to Kathi) on: Nov 20, 2013

We always said since getting to know Joe that we couldn't imagine life without him and his help at the shop with electrical equipment repairs, etc. We are so glad for those last precious times we got to share with Joe and Remembrance Day at Deer Lodge was a special day even though he wasn't feeling good. One of our fond memories is of taking a new Christmas ornament for Joe's little tree each year and then of course he would try his joke on us that all the cars are stopping on the road to admire his huge display of lights! (one string on his railing!) Skipp was always sure he was our Grandpa or at the very least his uncle! Our deepest sympathy to the family and also our thanks to Gord and Kathi for sharing him with us so unselfishly! - Posted by: Rod and Sandy Noble (friends) on: Nov 19, 2013

Can't deny the fact that there was your way (which never worked) or Joe's way which always worked. I loved stopping by and seeing him when I would deliver his meals. A gentle man whose wealth of knowledge is irreplaceable. Rest in peace Joe. To his family I am sorry for your loss. He was an incredible man. - Posted by: Blair () on: Nov 19, 2013

As a kid, I just loved going back to Winnipeg and hanging out with Uncle Joe and Auntie Billie and Kathy at their house and Granny's. It was so much fun and everyone was so nice. Uncle Joe and Auntie Billie had the best sense of humor. Everyone always got together for dinner, pyrogies and cabbage rolls, at Granny's. Those were great times. My Mom, June, and Uncle Joe spoke a few months ago about how they were the last ones left in the Wintinks. She loved those conversations and sends her love, as do I. Our best to all. - Posted by: Marlene Wintink-Snell (Niece, daughter of Dan and June Wintink.) on: Nov 16, 2013
