KAY HENDRICKS (nee BERNHARD) May 12, 1917 - November 14, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Kay Hendricks in the early hour of Thursday, November 14, 2013. She is survived by her sons Edward (Darleene) and Bernie (Cathy); her grandchildren Arlene (Jeff), Cindy, Philip (Carol), Trevor, Tracey (Andrew) and Bruce (Mavis); great-grandchildren Blake, Chad, Elizabeth, Isabel, Reid, Jason, Emma and Carrie (Richard); and great-great-grandchildren Dylan and Dakota. In 1976, Mom was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Nick. She was also predeceased by her brothers Henry and Godfrey, and sisters Susie, Mary, Anne and Mollie. She came from a large loving family and she spread that same love to her family. In her early years, Mom worked as a seamstress and later as a clerk at Eaton's until her retirement. She was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church and the church's Seniors Group, a member of St. Joseph's Golden Age Group and a life member of the Canadian German Society. She took great interest in the activities and achievements of all members of her family. Her easy-going nature, smile and genuine concern for others were the hallmarks of the wonderful person that she was. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Ave. with Pastor Bruce Gelhorn officiating and interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. The family thanks the caring staff of the Maples Personal Care Home for attending to Mom's needs for the last four and one half years. You are too numerous to mention by name. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to a charity of your choice. "Rest in peace Mom; your earthly journey is over. You are now in the loving care of your God" For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

  • Her great smile and laugh will be missed!! - Posted by: Megann Noonan ( great Niece) on: Nov 20, 2013

  • The Bernhards were the only cousins my dad had that came to Canada, so have always had a special significance. As a kid, I remember her working at Eaton's, which was highly respected at that time. My sister, Esther and I had a wonderful visit with Kay at her home in 2002. She told us her memories of my dad's family arriving in Winnipeg from Russia. She served us a lovely lunch with tablecloth and china dishes, which I'm sure was typical of her. She was a lovely lady. - Posted by: Margaret Hanssen, nee Helwer (second cousin) on: Nov 16, 2013
