Klaus and I were childhood friends. We shared the same address for a number of years and spent many hours exploring the neighbourhood. I am sad to learn of his untimely passing. Heartfelt condolences are expressed to his wife Irene. - Posted by: Peter Brattke (Childhood friend and neighbour) on: Feb 09, 2014

I got to know Irene and Klaus shortly after I arrived in Canada as a student. Over the years we became close friends and spent countless holidays together. Klaus and Irene moved me into my first apartment, brought the carrier for my first child and took him on his first boat ride; so many fond memories in our mental album. What we will remember the most is the friendship that Klaus shared with so many others for who you are not what you have. We will miss Klaus greatly. - Posted by: Xiao (Friend of Irene and Klaus) on: Nov 28, 2013

Irene and I worked in the same department at Bristol so that's how I came to know Klaus. Though I didn't know him well, I certainly liked what I saw and heard. Always affable, always upbeat, always willing to help out. I had a few situations that needed some welding so I turned to Klaus. Though they weren't big jobs, I certainly appreciated Klaus seeing to it they got done while I waited. Though I offered to pay, Klaus wouldn't hear of it. The jolly spirit, the broad smiles, the beard, and the first name with 'K' replacing 'C' always made me think of you-know-who, minus the reindeer! Life has given you some major challenges Irene and certainly losing a child is the most profound bereavement any human can sustain. You're a strong person Irene so I'm confident you will find the inner strength to carry on in the face of the second most profound bereavement we humans have to face, namely loss of a life-partner. There will be difficult times in the days ahead but you have a huge store of fond memories to comfort you, memories accumulated over the 42 years you have been together. May you stay strong and be comforted in your loss, Irene. - Posted by: Gord Richardson (former co-worker of Irene) on: Nov 26, 2013

Dear Irene: We're so very saddened to hear about Klaus. We will treasure wonderful memories We met Klaus and Irene 43 years ago, in fact we spent our first Christmas in Canada with Klaus and still laugh about the pop bottles which all burst after we'd put them in the porch to keep cool. There are many many more stories we often reminise about especially the ones after he met Irene, truly a match made in heaven! Rest in peace dear Klaus, you were one of the best and will be missed by the entire Brown family. We will forever treasure fond memories of you. Sue and Joe Brown and family. - Posted by: Sue Brown (Friend) on: Nov 19, 2013

After doing some work on the Baumbach cottage we became good friends. Many times we were invited to their place where we enjoyed his excellent cooking (and let's not forget his homemade wine!) with a game of cards to follow. He will be missed a lot. Where do we go now for some sound advice?? We may find some comfort in knowing that he is now pain free. We hope that Irene will find the strength to carry on. - Posted by: Jake and Sophie Kwakernaak (Friends.) on: Nov 19, 2013

I knew Klaus and Irene for 10 years - that is when I bought the cottage. We became good friends and shared his famous barbecues and red wine at his place. He helped me many times with many things with his technical know how..from water pump to riding mower. My words will never be able to justify his generous nature. God only makes these kind of angels sparingly. We will always cherish his memories. We pray for Irene to bless her with courage. We miss him very much but we are also at comfort that he is sitting in Heavens without pain and having a nice glass of wine and looking down at us. May God Bless my friend Klaus. Amin! - Posted by: Michael Mahmood & valentina Dubovik (Friend and neighbor at his cottage) on: Nov 18, 2013
