HUGH JOHN MUSTARD December 15, 1935 November 21, 2013 Peacefully, after a short illness and accompanied by loving family, Hugh John Mustard passed away at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre. Hugh was born in Gladstone, Manitoba, son of Wendell and Jessie Mustard of Palestine and grew up as the oldest of four boys. He was predeceased by brother Donald and is survived by his brothers Wendell and Douglas. His laughter and smile will be greatly missed by his children Darrell (Heather), Dwayne, Cathy (Rob), and Karen. Also mourning his loss are his great friends Linda, Dorothy and Dirk. After high school Hugh embarked on a long and successful career in farm machinery sales, first in Killarney, then to Winnipeg, Morden and Portage la Prairie. Always community minded, he was a charter member of the Elks Lodge (Morden Chapter), Associate Member of The Royal Canadian Legion (Gladstone) and a long standing member of the Portage Rotary Club. Hugh loved all sports but nothing was dearer to his heart than horse racing. He loved to spend warm summer evenings at Assiniboia Downs, hanging out with friends on the back stretch and "Winning Races" until the wee hours of the morning. But nothing made him happier than visiting with family, especially his grandchildren Chloe, Clark, Marty, Tristan, Ian, Andrew, and Camryn. "Grampa Hugh" will be sadly missed but always fondly remembered. "Uncle Hugh" will be sadly missed by nephew Carmen, niece Heather, and great niece and nephews. The family would like to send a heart felt thank you to Jim and Suzie Donnelly for their selfless friendship and they would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Health Sciences Centre SICU for their great care and support. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to pay tribute to Hugh should play a Boots Randolph record and make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A Memorial Service for friends and family will be held at a later date. Clarke's Funeral Home, Gladstone-MacGregor www.clarkesfuneralhome.com.

  • My first real summer job was with Portage International. Hugh was one of my bosses. I quickly learned how to work hard and play harder. He introduced me to the "boys club" in the back shop. Hugh never treated me as an employee but rather a co-worker. The experiences here lasted a lifetime. My sincere condolences to all his family. He will be missed - Posted by: G.
