GERMAINE DE MEYER (nee DENEWETH) Peacefully, with her family by her side, Germaine DeMeyer passed away on November 20, 2013 just into her 98th year at Boyne Lodge in Carman, Manitoba. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Doreen (Joe) Dusik, Bernice Reimer, Bob DeMeyer and Linda (Pierre) Dalrymple. Her memory will be cherished by nine grandchildren Darren (Wendy) Dusik, Brad (Tami) Dusik, Kerry (Kathy) Dusik, Kevin (Karen) Reimer, Debbie (Dave) Burke, Donna (Dan) Burky, Mark (Angela) DeMeyer, Michael (Chantal) Dalrymple, and Steven (Angela) Dalrymple; great-grandchildren Jordan (Shyla), Justin, Tess, Brendan, Tiffany, Bryce, Owen, Sophie, Melissa (Byron), Amanda (Cory), Jeremy, Bailey, and Tristan: three step-great-grandchildren Ashley, Sabrina and Brent; and three great-great-grandchildren Caleb, MaeLynn and Keira. She is survived by one sister Margaret DeMeyer in California, and sisters-in-law Leva DeMeyer, Irene DeMeyer, Lucresse Deneweth, and Elsie Deneweth, all of Winnipeg, Lise Deneweth of Sherbrooke, Quebec, and numerous nieces and nephews. Germaine was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Nestor DeMeyer; brothers Albert, Joe, George, Jules, and sisters Elsie, Mary and Jowie. Germaine Deneweth was born in Fort Garry, Manitoba, the eldest in a family of nine. As a family they attended St. Vital Church and her favourite activities were school and church-related: choir, concerts, and plays. She was involved in the Children of Mary and the Ladies of St. Anne. She loved to sing and often sang at family occasions. At a young age and being the oldest, she became a caregiver and was the mother hen to her eight siblings. She attended Grandin School and completed Grades 9, 10 and 11 in one year. She started working at the age of 14 as a maid for approximately one year; worked as a hairdresser for a year and then worked at Ogilvie Flour Mills in St. Boniface for five years, during which time she met Nestor. They were married in 1936 and in 1938 they bought a dairy farm - the Fort Rouge Dairy. The early years were hard but she never shied away from daunting tasks or facing difficult situations. In 1961 they moved to Oak Bluff and worked together at building a bigger and more successful dairy business. Germaine was a lifetime member of the Belgian Club and helped establish Kermis Week. She was a very generous and giving person and volunteered for many activities. After retiring, they enjoyed travelling to visit family and relatives. She loved her home and enjoyed spending time tending to her flowers. She was known for her beautiful knitted baby outfits, crocheting and needlepoint. She was a good card player and played endless games of crib in her later years. Germaine was the oldest senior member to participate in the Oak Bluff shuffleboard games and was respected and well liked for her warmth and loving nature. Germaine became the family historian...the go to' person for dates/names/information as she remembered everything. Germaine's faith and love of family were of utmost importance in her life, and that love flowed strong and deep. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren joined her circle of life and she was a lovely and proud granny figure. Our fondest memories of Mom will be her sitting on the patio in the summertime with her hands still busy at work crocheting or knitting, telling family and visitors stories of her past. Mom was always happiest with a house full and will be deeply missed by all who were part of her life. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Vital Catholic Church. A family interment at Green Acres Cemetery will follow the reception. Memorial donations may be made to the Fort Garry Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund or charity of choice. The family wish to express their special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to Agnes, advocate and Coordinator/Continuing Care and the homecare staff who diligently tended to Mom while still at home; to the professional and personal staff at Carman Hospital, and to the medical and support staff at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, for their caring and loving attention in Mom's declining year and to all who helped her live with comfort and dignity.
