ELMA DUECK January 18, 1921 - November 26, 2013 At age 92, Mom peacefully completed her earthly journey and joyfully soared away to her eternal home into the arms of Jesus, her Saviour. Mom was born and grew up in Kleefeld, married Henry B. Dueck, and moved to Rosenort to start their family. Dad managed the Riverside Co-op store, while Mom shepherded their three children. She was always very active in the church, living out her faith and pouring her life into service for others. In 1970 she and Dad bought and managed Betula Lake Resort in the Whiteshell, until they retired in Winnipeg in 1978. Dad reached Heaven first, in 1996, but Mom continued to find people to love and to serve. Even into her 80s and 90s, in partnership with daughter Lois, she embraced a whole new community of people among those who faced particularly steep challenges in life. Many of them experienced the deep acceptance and love that Mom gave so generously and became her adopted children . Mom will be remembered for so many wonderful aspects of her character. She held firmly to her faith in Christ through some difficult years, and was a major reason her three children came back to relationship with Jesus. Mom had such a gentle and loving spirit that touched countless people, because she reflected Jesus so genuinely in her life. Mom was preceded to glory by her husband Henry, her mother and father, and three sisters Betty, Marion and Myrna. Remaining to carry on her legacy are her three children, Gerry (Blanca), Roy (Juanita) and Lois, three sisters Rosaline, Tilley and Carol, two brothers Ronald and Lawrence, four grandchildren, numerous relatives, and the many others who call her Mom or simply friend . Heartfelt thanks to those who cared so compassionately for Mom in her last months at Concordia Hospital, Misericordia Personal Care Home and Donwood Manor Personal Care Home. A service of remembrance and celebration will take place at Braeside Evangelical Mennonite Church, 1011 Munroe Ave., Winnipeg on Saturday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception. Interment will take place at Glen Eden Cemetery. If anyone wishes to honour Elma tangibly, instead of flowers we encourage you to befriend a lonely soul. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB (204) 338-0331 Condolences may be sent to www.klassenfuneralhome.com
