Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALICE HENDERSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Henderson (nee Forest and Pilkington) on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the age of 86. She is survived by daughters Linda McDonald (Stewart), Patricia Bray (Ted), stepson Craig Henderson (Linda), and stepdaughter Vikki Henderson (Campbell Alexander). She is also survived by grandchildren Kory McDonald Ibarra (Pedro), Kelly Bray (TJ DeSola), Jonathon Bray (Lindsay), Sasha Cantafio, Jackson Saunders, Douglas and Cameron Henderson, and great-grandchildren Aiden, Ruby, and Faye Kofoed, Bianca Ibarra, Kaitlyn Bray, Keira Henderson, Gabriel and Spencer Cantafio, and sisters Hortense (Henri Trudel), Aurise, Aline (Ernest Neveux), Anita (Gabriel Catellier), and Marcelle (Joseph Robidoux). She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Emma (Fortier), husband Tom Pilkington, husband John "Jack" Henderson, brothers Norbert, Jean, and Louis, and sisters Annette, Cécile, Germaine, Denise, and Irene. Alice was born in a family farmhouse on November 2, 1927 in St. Malo, Manitoba, where she grew up with her 10 sisters and three brothers. After completing high school, she moved to Winnipeg to take a business / secretarial course. She met and married Tom Pilkington in Winnipeg and lived in the North End of Winnipeg until his death in July 1960. She was fortunate to be surrounded by loving family who supported her and her two young daughters until they moved to an apartment in Windsor Park. The move proved to be one of the best decisions of her life. She met firefighter Jack Henderson when high school friends Vikki and Linda left a phone off the hook. Jack came to Alice's apartment and it was love at first sight. Alice and Jack married in 1971 and spent their remaining years together as a devoted and loving couple. Family was very important to both of them and we have many fond memories of family celebrations at Christmas and family holidays at Grand Beach and Clear Lake. One of Alice's proudest moments was when her husband Jack became Fire Chief for the City of Winnipeg in November 1985. Our mother retired in 1991, along with husband Jack and true to her promise, took up golf. She and Jack travelled the world, golfed as often as they could, and enjoyed their extended families, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Alice was a proud, loving, stubborn, resilient, and strong woman. She had a beautiful singing voice and loved music. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed. The last few years were not kind to Alice and Jack. Both developed Dementia and moved from their apartment in downtown Winnipeg, to an assisted living apartment, and then to a 24-hour care nursing home. The family extends a warm thank you to the wonderful staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg and to Josie from Revera Home Health Care. Should friends desire, donations may be made to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg.
