JOSEPH (JOE) PASHNITSKI November 14, 1926 - November 27, 2013 Though surrounded by his loving family, Joe was finally forced to concede defeat to lung cancer at the Palliative Unit of St. Boniface Hospital on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Left to cherish Joe's memory are his wife Helen; loving son Wayne (Beverly); younger brother Walter (Angie); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Anna and John Pashnitski of Gimli; brother Mike of Winnipeg; and Ted of Toronto. Joe's life began on a farm near Gimli. He attended a one room rural school that taught grades 1 - 8. Upon completion of Grade 8, at the age of 14, he joined the work force. Like many men of his generation, he learned on the job and eventually earned his ticket as a journeyman pipefitter. Joe worked on many projects in Manitoba and the US. He was a 50 year member of United Association, Local 254. Upon his retirement, Joe had two main interests. The summer was spent gardening and trying to keep a manicured lawn. There was a friendly rivalry with fellow gardening enthusiasts as to who would have the first garden ripened tomato. He tried to save his flowers from the gentle deer. The end of yard work meant bowling season began. Again there was friendly competition to win a quarter or at least be in the top 10 for averages. On Monday, December 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Joe's Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street @ Manitoba Avenue. A special thanks to all friends, neighbours and family whose encouragement meant so much in trying times, as well as to the staff of the Palliative Unit of the St. Boniface Hospital. No flowers please. Donate to a charity of your choice if you so desire. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg, 204 - 586 - 8668, wojciksfuneralchapel.com.

I have many fond memories of Joe and his brothers on the Gimli family farm. Joe taught me a thing or two about driving years ago. "When driving on a road with 3 lanes in the same direction always stay in the middle lane..it's the safest!" After taking the AARP course I learned he was absolutely right! - Posted by: Lawrence Diachun (Cousin) on: Nov 30, 2013

Joe was a great neighbour while watching our family grow for the past 23 years. He loved tending to his flowers and always kept his home neat as a pin! Our sincere sympathies to Helen and her family. - Posted by: Ross & Margie (Neighbour) on: Nov 29, 2013
