VIOLET MARTHA BOOKER It is with heavy hearts that the Booker family announces the passing of Violet Martha Booker on November 22, 2013, the mother of Ralph (Lynne), Mavis (Bill) of Edmonton, grandchildren Brent (Kat), Lisa (Mark) and great-granddaughter Madisyn. Also left to mourn her passing is Gloria Vaughan who had a special bond with our mother. Violet was predeceased by her husband James in 2001. Mom was a loving, caring woman who at an early age was left to look after her mother and father after a tragic accident claimed her brother John. This event had a profound impact which touched her deeply. Nothing was more important to Violet than taking care of her family. This kindness and compassion was extended to all who touched her life. Mom and dad were childhood friends and were married September in 1943. After moving to Montreal in 1968, and many moves later they returned to Winnipeg in 1979 for dad's retirement where they were able to enjoy time spent with her grandchildren. Mom had many friends that she has constantly kept in touch with especially her evening phone call to Uncle Lawrence. She volunteered at the Canadian Red Cross and loved to meet her lady friends at the Paddlewheel at the Bay on Saturday afternoons. She loved to walk, bake, and knit and she loved her kitties'. Anyone who knew Violet would know of her special love for cats. Mom was especially pleased to see this love of kitties develop in Madisyn, her cherished great-granddaughter. We have been blessed to have such a wonderful mother and person in our lives, and she will always be in our hearts. We would like to thank the St. Norbert Nursing Home for their thoughtfulness and care of mom. A private family service was held with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3. I was delighted to meet Violet through Mavis and forever after Violet held a special place in my heart. We didn't meet often but when we did we had great visits. I have a picture of a loving Violet holding my first grandson on one of her visits to Edmonton. Violet was a strong, beautiful woman. Last summer I dropped in to see her and we chatted; as I walked away and turned to look at her, she waved. I am so glad I got to see her one more time. I know her love and spirit will be with you all forever. In sympathy and love, Noreen - Posted by: Noreen Bell (Friend) on: Dec 02, 2013
