OLAFUR HERBERT PALSSON August 7, 1934 - November 27, 2013 Peacefully, on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, Oli Palsson passed away at the Arborg and District Hospital. Oli is survived by his brothers, Pall, Larus, Siggi and Victor Palsson; sisters, Sigga (Rob) Tait and Inga Doll, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Larus and Elin, sister Beatrice, brother Hjalti, sisters-in-law Margaret and Sigurros. Oli grew up on the family farm, working alongside his parents and brothers, in their mixed farming operation. For several years Oli worked part-time as a heavy equipment operator, also maintaining and repairing the equipment. He worked on railway construction and rail bed maintenance, and spent several winters in logging camps, before he and his brothers, Hjalti, Siggi, and Victor took over the farm and successfully expanded its operation. He was best known as "MR. FIX ALL," a man who was never stumped and meticulously completed his repairs. His welding and carpentry skills were only unsurpassed by his ingenuity. Oli was an experienced hunter, and later in life, he also loved angling, especially for catfish. He truly shone as a gardener, with a knack for growing and harvesting a massive vegetable garden. He loved to share his bountiful harvest. Family was always important to Oli, and he also cultivated many friendships with his kind-hearted, generous and gentle ways. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed socializing, which would include his good sense of humour. Oli was bound to the land from the day of his birth His roots anchored deep in the fertile earth Nurtured, sustained by the soil he grew And his life, like his furrows, ran straight and true. In faith, each spring, he planted the seeds In hope, to reap his family's needs With patience, he waited for the harvest to come To gather the fruits of his labour home. Ever turning seasons, the years sped past Till the final harvest came at last Then claimed anew by beloved sod He was gathered home to be with God. Goda Nott No formal service will be held, a private family interment will take place at a later date. Special thanks, for their care and support, to the doctors and the nursing staff at the Arborg and District Health Centre, the Ambulance Paramedics and to the Arborg Home Care nursing staff. Donations may be made to Ardal Geysir Lutheran Church in his memory or to a charity of your choice. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME ARBORG (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
