JOYCE SEREDA It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wife and mother, Joyce Sereda, on November 18, 2013, at the age of 84. Joyce has left to cherish her memory, her husband Walter, of 59 years of marriage; her three daughters and their families: Leesa Sereda, Monica Halbesma (Don - grandkids Jenny and Matt), Brenda Laurencelle (Rick - grandpups Biscuit and Tia), and Joyce's sisters Lorna and Joan (Tom), sister-in-law Louise, and many nieces and nephews. Greeting Joyce on the "other side" are her parents Archie and Florence Taylor, her siblings Campbell, "The Twins" Dottie and Nora, and Frank. From an early age Joyce loved to knit and sew and became a qualified seamstress. She won prizes at the Red River Exhibition and East Kildonan County Fair for the quality of her workmanship in both these textile arts. Her craftsmanship in decoupage was shared at classes she taught at a local craft shop but her many craft skills were demonstrated informally as well in detailed and treasured gift items. Her delicious baked goods and beautifully decorated cakes were enjoyed by her family, friends and co-workers. The skill for which she earned her living was on the stenopad, typewriter and computer keyboard, where she excelled with her speed and accuracy in shorthand and typing. Her secretarial career started at Great-West Life, took her as far away as the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, DC but brought her back to Winnipeg to work at Crane Limited, Ford Motor Company, and Building Products. She put her career on hold from 1960 to 1980 to raise her family. Her career resumed in the Manitoba Government where she worked in various branches of Industry, Trade and Tourism until her retirement. Joyce enjoyed swimming, cross-country skiing and just relaxing at Grand Marais. A daily exercise regimen was followed at Seven Oaks Wellness Centre with her Coachy' in their retirement years. Bowling with the Holy Eucharist Bowling League was a weekly physical activity. Joyce often canvassed for various charities including the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and supported a number of organizations protecting animals in general. The family would like to thank the Home Care team at the River East Access Centre for their support, and the staff of N1 South at Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Joyce. Bless you all. A private family service, officiated by Father Michael Kwiatkowski, has already taken place in accordance with Joyce's wishes for cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, and the Winnipeg Humane Society. Online condolences at www.friendsfs.ca
