JAMES FULTON KENNY DUFF With great sadness we announce the passing of James Fulton Kenny Duff on December 1, 2013 at the age of 91 years. He will be greatly missed by Lillian, his wife of 66 years; children Sharon Duff, Cathie Goldie (Colin), Brian Duff (Carol Holmes), Marilyn Duff; grandchildren Jane Dewar (Mark), Joel Lawrence, Cameron Goldie (Daniela), Andrew Goldie, Alison Goldie, Mike Duff, Graham Duff, Jenn Duff, Sarah Chanway, Matt Chanway, Nicole Chanway; great-grandchildren James and Jensen Dewar. Jim was born in Winnipeg on June 27, 1922. He attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, United College, and the University of Manitoba where he received a B.Sc. (Hons) in 1943. He served two and one half years in the army training as a Lieutenant with the R.C. Signals and was posted to Debert, NS. In April 1946, he began teaching Physics to a large class of veterans at United College. On April 12, 1947, he married his "sweetheart" Lillian Davidson. 1948 to 1949 took the two to the University of Minnesota where Jim earned his Master's degree. Jim continued teaching at United College (later the University of Winnipeg) until his retirement in September 1983. He served as chairman of the department for 28 years and was made a Fellow of United College in 1984. Jim was a life member and Past Master of Beaver Lodge 139 A.F. and A.M. (now Beaver Ionic Lodge No. 25), joining in February 1947. He was a member of the Scottish Rite. Curling with the "Senators" at the Granite Curling Club gave him much pleasure after retirement. Membership in Greenwood United Church (later McClure United Church) greatly enriched Jim's life. Among his many activities there, he served on the Board of Trustees. Jim loved to travel, spend time outdoors, listen to music and read. His subtle sense of humour and gentle, intelligent ways made him dear to every family member. The family would like to thank Dr. A. Schroeder for many years of kind competent care, and all those who were especially helpful in his final days. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Place at 11:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Jim was my closest cousin and my last visit to you, Lillian, and to Jim was in 2011. A favorite story is of Jim's patience and kindness to me when he taught me Physics (age 17), and I didn't pay attention, and he still agreed to give me extra tutoring! He just smiled lovingly at me and got me through the course. I needed it to get into nursing. Every memory I can remember from way back to the present was a very sweet one. I loved him and you, Lillian, very much. I hope to see you next summer Lillian. Love to you and your family, Joanne Kenny - Posted by: Joanne Kenny ( cousin, daughter of Frank and Gladys Kenny) on: Dec 06, 2013
