Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHILIP STANLEY YOUNG April 21, 1920 - December 3, 2013 Peacefully on December 3, 2013, after a long, well lived 93 years, Dad passed away at St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. Left to celebrate and cherish his life are his children: Linda, Craig (Jill), Terry (Sherry), Randy, and Lisa (George), 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by our Mom, Alice in 1971, our sister, Lori in May 2013 and his long time sweetheart, Kathleen (Kae) Davis on December 2, 2013. Dad was born in Kenton, Manitoba and lived there until he was 19. He started his work career as a projectionist in Carmen, Virden, Minnedosa and finally as the manager of the College Theatre in Winnipeg. He moved onto a long, successful business career in the home building industry. He was one of the founding partners and President of Home Development Company Ltd. He was in charge of building homes in Winnipeg, Thompson, Lynn Lake, Moose Jaw, and Thunder Bay. He was a lifetime member of the Manitoba Home Builders Association and Past President (1967 to 1968). His picture still hangs in the board room. He was presented with the National House Builders Association Presidential Award of Honour in 1969. Dad went on to work for Ladco as the Vice President of Special Projects, after which he took an early retirement. Dad had a very active lifestyle during his retirement. He and Kae travelled extensively. They wintered for many years in Indian Lake, Texas where they had a winter home. They also travelled to China, Mexico, Barbados, Hawaii, different parts of Europe, and enjoyed an Alaskan cruise. In the early 1960s Dad purchased a family cabin at Gull Lake which was the home to many family celebrations. He introduced the family to waterskiing and sailing on a Hobie Cat 16. We all have wonderful memories of the good times had there. Dad excelled in sports in high school and was an avid golfer and became a long time member of Southwood Golf and Country Club. He also golfed other Manitoba courses with his golfing buddies, the F. Fer's (Fine Fellows). Dad especially enjoyed hosting the golf windup at Gull Lake right up until this past summer. He also enjoyed curling, whether he was a spectator or a player. He curled from the time he was a kid in Kenton. He was a member of the Wildwood Curling Club. He travelled to the World Curling Championship in Grand Forks with two of his sons in 2008. He golfed and curled up until this past year. Dad and Kae enjoyed the Goldeyes and had minipacks for many years. They were patrons of the Arts having season tickets to the Winnipeg Symphony as well as the Manitoba Opera. Family was extremely important to Dad. He relished in our Christmas gatherings each year. He especially loved being Santa's helper. He would spend weeks putting together goody bags for everyone. He insisted on buying a Christmas gift for every single family member. He was a great family supporter proudly attending graduations, concerts, plays, recitals and somehow remembering everyone's birthday with a phone call and a small gift. Dad was a man of class and dignity, a true gentleman full of charisma. He was gracious and unselfish, always putting others before himself. He felt he was extremely blessed with his abundance of family and friends. He was extremely sociable and a great host. He especially enjoyed happy hours at the lake with friends and neighbours. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Dad had asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Manitoba CancerCare, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice. I was saddened to learn of Phil's passing. Yes, I do realize that 7 months have passed by, but I had opportunity to make reference of Phil today, only to find out that he had passed. What a Class act. His family does miss him, his friends and business associates also miss him. Boy, if the world had more Phil Young's, "just a thought"! - Posted by: Brian D.Yewchyn,C.I.M. I came to know and appreciate Phil as a member of the Wildewood Senior Recreation Association over the past 17 years. Phil was always a good friend, could be counted on as a very good curler on the teams he played with. His rocks were often in a position to count on the score board. He was very modest about his ability and he seemed to enjoy himself on the ice right up until he decided to quit the game. He was one of the very few who still enjoyed the game at 90 years plus. We, as his fellow curlers have missed him this year but are thankful for his life and contribution for the many years he was a WSRA Member participating if curling and golf. May he rest in peace! - Posted by: Garth Stone (Friend and Fellow Curler) on: Dec 08, 2013

Phil was indeed a great gentleman. His obituary attests to the fact that he was fun loving and well loved. What a wonderful tribute. You will be missed, Phil. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Shirley Hambly (friend) on: Dec 08, 2013

I met Phil Young as a young boy at the College Theater. I will never forget him. One day when I did not have the price of a ticket he took me in. Years later I was hired by the town of St. James where Phil was the builder. He remembered me and was still a great person. - Posted by: Bob Handler (Friend) on: Dec 08, 2013

Mr Young was the best neighbour at Executive House, 390 Wellington Cres., when he lived here a few years ago. Greatly respected and very sociable. All the residents here were so very sorry when he moved away. He is sorely missed and will always be remembered as the perfect neighbour and gentleman! Deepest sympathy to his family!
