RICHARD WALTER WINNICKY 1959 ! 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Richard Walter Winnicky on December 11, 2013 at the age of 54 years at Health Science Centre. Richard was born April 16, 1959. Richard leaves to mourn in his passing, his high school sweetheart and wife, Penny, of nearly 34 years, and his brother Terry. He also leaves behind his children, Keith and fiancé Ashley; Candace and husband Keith; his beautiful little granddaughter Lyla; his mother-in-law Shirley Hagen; brother-in-law Daryl and Kelly Hagen; sister-in-law Wendy and Mike Hart; brothers-in-law Michael and Gregory Hagen and numerous nephews, nieces, uncles, aunties and cousins. Richard was predeceased by his parents Walter Winnicky, December 16, 1963, and Olga Makowsky, December 25, 2008, and step-father Michael Makowsky, September 21, 2011, as well as father-in-law Orville Hagen, June 2, 2000. Richard was a loyal and dedicated husband, father, papa and friend. When asked he was always there and would never let anyone down. You could always rely on his strong work ethic and eye for detail. He was very skilled, especially when it came to mechanics, and people went to him for answers. His priority was providing for and protecting his family. Throughout his life he accomplished so many successes. His greatest were his children and his grandchild, Lyla, whom he passed his knowledge and wisdom on to. He will also miss his faithful companion, Mavrick. Richard started working for Shelmerdine Nurseries in 1973 and was acknowledged for his 40 years of dedication and loyalty to his work, which gained him much respect throughout his years of service. Richard enjoyed everything about the outdoors to working, camping, hockey and football. Richard was an all-around good sport. We would like to thank the team of doctors and nursing staff at Manitoba Cancer Clinic and Health Science Centre (CCU) for all their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to CancerCare or to the charity of your choice. Celebration of Rick's life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. I remember when Richard came to work with us, 'the field crew', at Shelmerdine's in the fall of 1973. Always a great guy to work with and the laughs we shared thru the years working in the back 40, put a smile on my face still. A life ended all too soon. Sincere condolences to all the family. - Posted by: Glen Schattner (Co worker/Friend) on: Dec 15, 2013

We were so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. He was a great guy and he will be missed more than words can say. We always looked forward to seeing him at family gatherings and catching up with him on things. Those gatherings just won't be the same. But even though he is not there physically we will always be thinking of him. We wish you - the family - strength to get you through the pain and hope that all the wonderful memories you have of him will be treasured forever.
