EIGILL JOHNSON May 8, 1925 - December 15, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eigill Johnson at the age of 88. Eigill will be sadly missed by the love of his life of 66 years, Evelyn, his children Harold (Karen), Les (Eileen), Maureen (Craig), Sam (Karla), Darlene (Curtis), Raymond (Kathy), also by his son-in-law Greg Stevens and daughter-in-law Norma Johnson. Eigill was so lucky to have so many grandchildren and great-grandchildren he loved so much. Eigill was predeceased by his parents Sigridur and Andres, his sister Holmfridur, his children, Cecil, Andrew, Lillian, and his grandson Michael. Eigill was born in Framnes, May 8, 1925. He spent his early years in Oak Point and later in Arborg. He also spent a few years in the navy and later he became a commercial fisherman. It was during this time, he always said that he met the catch of his life - Evelyn. He had a long career with Manitoba Hydro as a construction superintendent. He was so proud of his career and was always willing to share his slideshow of every Hydro project he ever worked on to anyone that would show interest. He worked on many projects in northern Manitoba including Grand Rapids, Gillam, Jenpeg and Sundance and then retired to Arborg in 1979. He was an extremely hard worker and always gave 100% of effort in everything that he pursued. He was a man of many talents, he was a self-taught carpenter, plumber, electrician and anything he put his mind to, he would master. When he retired from Manitoba Hydro he very quickly learned he wasn't quite ready to slow down. He worked for the Town of Arborg and also as a construction superintendent for RAL construction. He spent a few years teaching water treatment courses at the community college. He was extremely smart and would love to share his knowledge and watch people flourish. He was a wonderful husband and father. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and instilled the same work ethic in his children and taught us that giving up on anything was never an option. We were so lucky to witness such a deep love that he had for Mom, they were best friends and shared so many happy years together. He was such a great mentor to all of us, there was never a problem too big for him to solve. Some would call it stubborn - he called it persistent! When he wasn't working or raising his nine children, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, coaching hockey, being a scout leader and later in life golfing. Dad, we know that you are in heaven with your loved ones and are enjoying a few laughs and remembering the many special memories we will always hold so close. We miss you so much! Thank you to all the staff at the Arborg Personal Care Home that took such great care of Eigill over the past few years. A special Thank you to Kathy Timchishen for her dedication and kindness taking Mom for her daily visits to see Dad. A service for family and close friends will be held in Arborg on Thursday, December 19, 1:00 p.m. at Arborg Christian Fellowship. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 1 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME ARBORG (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
