ALEX KORZENIOWSKI November 6, 1928 - December 16, 2013 Alex peacefully slipped away on Monday, suffering with Alzheimer's disease. He was 85 years old and after 62 years of marriage, leaves his wife, Sylvia; his siblings, Jennie, Joe (Marlene), Stan (Ellen); his sons, Gerald (Bonnie) and Bob (Judy); and grandchildren Alexis (Dan), Nicole, Isabel, as well as Karen (John), Kathryn and Bryan. Alex was born in Grandview, MB and grew up through difficult times on their nearby farm where he attended the local one room school with his siblings. After a short term in the Royal Canadian Artillery during the last part of the Second World War, he attended Teacher's College in Winnipeg and was soon teaching in similar rural schools. Although he taught in a number of rural locations, he always cherished his time teaching in the Northern community of South Indian Lake and all that entailed in those days. Alex carried these memories with him for as long as he had. Alex however, was always pursuing new challenges and later taught in a number of schools in Brandon. This led to his term as Truant Officer, followed by a career in Probation and Parole with the Government of Manitoba. Later, his professional career path led into the, then infant New Careers Program' and his specialty: Life Skills Training. He regarded this part of his life with special pride and had the highest regard for the people he worked with. During his entire career, Alex never lost his love for the outdoors, in thanks to his time in the North, and always enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. In the later years he always maintained a cottage and all that cottage life offers: boating, water sports, golfing and the like, but especially fishing. Alex retired relatively early and enjoyed a lengthy period of time living in the Okanagan and wintering in Phoenix. Throughout it all, he always maintained an extremely active role in all facets of whichever community he resided. The common thread throughout Alex's life was his enduring love of family and people; Alex was a people' person and always had time for all the people in his life. Alex will be cremated and come to his final resting place in Brandon, alongside his parents; Steve and Tilley. A small service will be held at 2:30 p.m., January 17, 2014 at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332 8th Street, Brandon and the family will hold a private interment at a later date. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the high level of care and sensitivity provided by the Oakview Place staff during his stay with them. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alex's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Alex and Sylvia were so kind to me when I located to Brandon as a young probation officer, taking me into their home until I was able to bring my family out to join me.
