IRENE JESSIE GIBSON On December 17, 2013 Irene passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her daughter Donna (Rick) While and son Scott (Jane) Gibson; grandchildren Shawn (Kristina), Dean (Larissa), Heather, Ryan (Arielle), Justin (Catherine), great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Violet, Stella and Evan, sister Bette, nieces and friends. Irene was predeceased by her husband Don, and parents George and Jessie Paton. She was born on October 23, 1926 in Winnipeg and resided in St. Vital most of her life. She worked in the accounts department at Greater Winnipeg Gas until retiring from Manitoba Hydro. Irene and Don built a cottage at Red Rock Lake in 1960 and enjoyed many summers there with family and friends. The cottage remains a gathering place for the family today. Irene traveled the world and belonged to many clubs including Eastern Star, Kenora Club and the St. Vital Historical Society. Mum valued her time with family and friends, maintaining contact with them all throughout the years. She still met with her Grade 1 class for lunch well into retirement. The family sincerely thanks the compassionate staff (family) at River Park Gardens. A celebration of Irene's life will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23 at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Irene and my Mom were the best of friends, I can't recall a time when they weren't. She was a lovely person, caring and genuinely nice with a kind heart. She will be forever in our memories. - Posted by: Andy and Leslie Taylor (Friend ) on: Dec 28, 2013

  • To the family of Irene, You do not know me except possibly by a card left with your Mom. I visited her for two years on behalf of St. Mary's Road United Church. Your Mom reminded me of my mother with her white hair and sedate presence when I would visit her. Mom also spent her last years in a PCH, Golden Links Lodge. Mom was also a teacher and held a lifelong membership in the Eastern Star. On one visit I mentioned the royal family and several times brought some of Mom's books to look at. I was looking for a place for them after Mom died and that was a perfect place for them. I had a call from SMRUC to attend at the funeral however I am in BC with family. I would have liked to meet Irene's family. My regards to you. Margaret Wilcock - Posted by: Margaret Wilcock () on: Dec 22, 2013
