OLIVE MARY SWEETLAND (nee SPENCE) Peacefully, and with family at her side, Olive Mary Sweetland aged 89 years of Lundar, MB, passed away at the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB on December 19, 2013. Olive will be lovingly remembered by her children: Sandra (Cliff) Pott, Wendy (Al) Budge, Arla (Fred) Brandson, Daryl (Sharon) and Larry (Marla); daughter-in-law Darlene Sweetland; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Muriel and Edna, and brother Wilfred, along with many other relatives. Olive was predeceased by her husband Herb (1984), son Art (2007), and daughter-in-law Wendy (1983). After mom and dad married they farmed together west of Lundar raising a family of six children. Olive was an active, independent, social and helpful person who enjoyed giving her time to the causes she believed in. When dad passed away mom remained on the farm for a year then moved to town to the house they had purchased which they were to retire in. She enjoyed town life. For many years she was a nanny (babysitter) to many families. Mom loved to cook, bake, knit and loved her flowers and gardening. Mom was active in the community over the years by donating and supporting many organizations. Her highlight was the Lundar Ag Fair which she and dad supported for years, mom as a director and her many entries in the ladies section, including this year. Mom had her independence until she entered the hospital six weeks before her passing. She loved it when the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren came to visit. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Lundar Lutheran Church, Lundar, MB with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. Interment to follow in the Lundar Municipal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her three grandsons Farrell Pott, Mike Sweetland, Evan Sweetland and three grandsons-in-law David Darknell, Stewart Thorgilsson and Michael Vigfusson. Thank you to Dr. Burnet and the staff at the E.M Crowe Memorial Hospital for all that they did for mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Olive's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or to a charity of one's choice.
