DARREN ANTHONY SYNKIW -
Date of Passing: Dec 22, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDARREN ANTHONY SYNKIW 1968 - 2013 Darren Anthony Synkiw, aged 45 years, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Riverview Health Centre. He was predeceased by his mother Dianne, and grandparents Patricia and Emil Lenko, and Margaret and Anton Synkiw. Darren will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Kathy and their children Dylan and Lauryn; his father Dennis Synkiw; sister Debbie (Andy) and nieces Georgia and Shelby, and numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues. Darren was born in Winnipeg on June 28, 1968, and spent his childhood in East St. Paul, where he attended Dr. F.W.L. Hamilton School, Robert Andrews School, and River East Collegiate. Darren worked for the past nine years as an Account Manager for First Canadian Insurance Corporation, serving the Manitoba motor vehicle industry, and with Scotiabank Dealer Finance prior to that. He took great pleasure in his work, and also in his longtime side job' as a hockey referee, most recently as a level 4 referee with the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League. He enjoyed spending leisure time on the golf course, and was a member at Rossmere Golf and Country Club. Darren took great pride in his home, and was constantly initiating and overseeing numerous home improvement projects, both indoors and out. He loved to open his home to his many friends and their families, for barbeques, pool parties, football Sundays, or for any old reason at all. Most of all, Darren was a devoted husband to Kathy and a wonderful father to Dylan and Lauryn, planning camping trips and family vacations, always supporting the kids in their sports and activities, and making them giggle in the way that only he could. Darren lit up around his children and was so proud of them every day. Though he left much too soon, it is some comfort that he will live on through Dylan and Lauryn. A celebration of Darren's life will be held on Friday, January 3 at 10:00 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road. Reception to follow. In keeping with Darren's wishes, cremation has taken place. Honourary pallbearers are: Jason Cross, Jason Polet, Dean Toporoski, Craig Wasylkiw, John Banewski, Brent Mendella, Andy Hill, and Brian Danyluk. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the entire team at the St. Boniface ICMS unit for their extraordinary efforts, and to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and caring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, or to a charity of choice. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 338-7111

My father (who was Darren's grandfather's brother), my brother and myself all had the wonderful opportunity to be invited to Darren and Kathy's wedding several years ago. Although my father has now passed on, he had, and my brother and I still have, fond memories of getting to meet 2 absolutely fantastic people and also getting to know our extended Lenko family out west. I also had a chance to reconnect with Darren and Kathy one more time as they hospitably opened their home to me when I came to visit Darren's mother in her final days. Kathy, Dylan and Lauryn - we are so very sorry for your loss. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. As in Ukrainian tradition, "Vichnaya Pamyat" Darren! I got the news from a school-friend that Darren and I grew up with from Robert Andrews School. I was shocked, I am so glad we had the chance to reconnect about a year ago and caught up. It was fun growing up with Darren and all our East-St Paul school friends lots of happy childhood memories, he always had a smile and was laughing. Life took us all in different directions but the sad news travelled fast in our group of classmates.
