Saddened to read of Dr. Litz’s passing. I met Reg in May of 1988, when I rented an Office & Warehouse space for my new business on Thomas Avenue in Winnipeg. It was his Father Al actually, Reg was a frequent Visitor to his Dad’s Office, who had the Offices next to mine. Fast forward to 1994, I enrolled at the U of M to further my Education and business skills. I was pleasantly surprised to find Reg was one of my Teachers, he was absolutely brilliant. Fast forward again to August 3rd, 2022, into my 4th month of Retirement and I got to thinking about Reg. He made such an impact on me, my life and my success I wanted to reach out and reconnect. I checked the U of M Faculty list and he wasn’t listed. I then Googled him and found he had passed, my heart sank. He was truly a great person, teacher and friend. My condolences (rather late) to his Family, they are heart felt, RIP Dr. Litz (Reg). - Posted by: Craig Parsley (Student, Client, Friend) on: Aug 03, 2022

Prof. Litz was an inspirational person. He was a co-author on one of my papers and his pursuit of excellence in teaching and research in the area of entrepreneurship was exemplary! He was especially sensitive about doing what is right - and not crossing the bounds of ethics. I found about his demise just today! My sincere condolences to his family. Respect for him! - Posted by: Preeti Krishnan Lyndem (PhD Student ) on: Sep 26, 2015

Reg was my mentor while I attended school at the University of Manitoba. I walked around the track with Reg almost every day. I saw him at the Raddy Jcc and we talked about world change and my young son Levi. I found out only today about his passing. My heart goes out to his family as the world lost a great visionary and soul but he will never be forgoten. - Posted by: Matthew Ostrove (Student and Freind) on: Nov 20, 2014

Reg was a member at the Rady JCC where I work. I had many wonderful chats with him over the years at the gym. He was such a genuine and caring person. I miss seeing him here and my condolences go out to his family. - Posted by: Lori Derraugh (acquaintance) on: Jun 03, 2014

I am in shock. I only briefly met Reg Litz for Administrative Policy. He was interested in my take that Team Canada hockey should learn tactics from Team Russia hockey rather than other students who hailed the great Canadian game like the good ol' boys in purity. I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Litz's passing. Absolutely shocked. The world lost a great one. - Posted by: David Albert Newman (Student) on: Feb 22, 2014

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Reg. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family knowing the great loss they are experiencing. Reg was a gifted teacher whom Tucker and I had the privilege of knowing on Semester at Sea in 2001. He was greatly admired by his students and shared his love of business and entrepreneurship in his classes. Reg was a wonderful human being and we were blessed to have known him. I knew Reg from Camp Arnes. He was a great guy, with time for everyone and lived life with enthusiasm. We met up again on an airplane a few years ago and had fun catching up. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. His was a life well-lived. - Posted by: David Hatherly (Friend) on: Jan 13, 2014

Reg was a pioneer in the field of family business. He has left a legacy with his research and in the lives of the many students he has touched over the years. We miss him greatly and extend our sympathy to his family. We especially remember his love of music and, for example, how he arranged for members of the Marsalis family to join us at the 2012 USASBE conference in New Orleans. We know Reg is at peace. - Posted by: Roland Kidwell and Kim Eddleston (Academic colleagues) on: Jan 10, 2014

Reg and I were classmates at MBCI (grad class of ’76). Over the years, I have followed his career from a distance (Ontario), seeing the occasional business case study of his in the Globe and Mail or notices posted by the University of Manitoba. His joyous and friendly spirit will surely be widely missed. Unfortunately, distance does not permit my attendance at the memorial service, but I do wish to convey my sincere condolences to Reg's family. - Posted by: Edmund Pries (High School Classmate) on: Jan 09, 2014

I was one of many friends of Reg. We lived far apart but once or twice a year we were able to contact each other. Most recently Reg came to Leamington Ontario. There was always a brightness and excitement surrounding Reg and it was my privilege to give him a tour of Detroit. He had an affinity for Edsel Ford. We spent time at the Detroit Insitute of the arts, which Edsel Ford founded. Reg was a very cultured person, who introduced me to the Winnipeg Symphony. He had season tickets and always wanted to sit on the left hand side since he could hear the violins better. On the other hand, there was the 1980 season of the Winnipeg Church Football League in 1980. He constantly teased me ad nausem since I dropped the pass, which he claims was his best he ever threw. - Posted by: Gerald Peters (Friend) on: Jan 09, 2014

Reg Litz taught me two courses in University: Social Issues in Business and Administrative Policy (case course). He was always so enthusiastic and full of energy. He brought out great discussion in the class, and even had a class party at his house. He was one of my favourite profs and I'm sure he inspired many students over the years. I was so sorry to hear that he was sick and passed away so young. My sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: Kim (Matchett) Metcalfe (former student) on: Jan 09, 2014

I have known Reg since High School, and he was a friend to all. We had quite a group that hung out much of the time. I don't think Reg ever met a stranger. He often showed up at the Charter House boxing day get togethers we carried on as a tradition…like a mini reunion. My sincerest condolences to the family. I'm thankful all will see him again one day. - Posted by: Weldon Peters (friend) on: Jan 02, 2014

I am so sad to learn of the passing of Reg Litz. He was an outstanding professor who brought the best out in his students and in the educational process. I now teach and often find myself trying get the same engaging and inspirational classroom dynamic going that he had mastered. He will be sadly missed by many. My prayers are with his family and friends. - Posted by: Nicole Mardis (former student) on: Jan 01, 2014

Some people pass through our lives and leave an indelible impression. Reg Litz was one of those. We looked after his dogs Princess and Duchess from time to time and when he came to pick them up, he always had time to chat. When he came into the U of M Pharmacy/post office, he always greeted me with that "big" voice. But I think my fondest memory is Kid's Spot at Waverley church where he would come with his beautiful little girls on his day off. One day the children were particularly "scrappy" so he sat at the piano and soon everyone settled down. Lois, Rachel and Sara, we are overwhelmed with sadness but know he is present with the Lord, free from pain. He fought a good fight and has been rewarded with his crown of righteousness. You are loved and prayed for. - Posted by: Richard and Esther Quiring (friends) on: Dec 31, 2013

I knew Reg and sister Lori and brother Conrad many years ago singing with the Mennonite Children's Choir. Singing in this choir was a wonderful experience in my life that I wii always cherish the wonderful music and memories. It is so sad to hear about the passing of Reg and wish his family and extended family comfort at this time. Heidi Howarth (née Henning). - Posted by: Heidi. Reg has been a long time friend at Star Lake, with our kids growing up together there. My heart goes to you Lois, Rachel, and Sara. I was just looking at some old photos and Reg was in them being the "dock master"! He will be missed. - Posted by: Trish Merry Charles (Star Lake friend) on: Dec 30, 2013

I chatted with Reg in November at a Christmas Party. His focus was on others. Reg gave each person at the table respect and a listening ear as he showed genuine interest in what was going on in our lives. What a gift he was to all of us, and especially to Lois and his daughters. May God's arms of comfort hold you close. - Posted by: Elaine (friend) on: Dec 29, 2013

I was Reg's Math teacher at John Pritchard Junior High along with his siblings. I lost touch over the years but I remember meeting him at the Steinbach Mennonite Heritage Museum a few years ago and again at the Boundary Trails Hospital this summer. I was amazed with the enthusiasm of his recognition after all those years. I felt that he really was sincere in seeing me again. Condolences to all his family. Keep in touch. - Posted by: Leonard Roy Penner (Former Junior High Math teacher to Reg & his siblings) on: Dec 29, 2013

Our relationship with the Litz family goes way back to the 1950's when Mrs Litz started the Mennonite Children's Choir. I as well as both of our daughters ( Melanie and Shauna ) participated in the choir for many years. Just a note to offer our condolences at this very difficult time in the life of your family. I am so sorry to hear that Reg died. My deepest condolences to Lois, and to Sarah and Rachel. Although I didn't know Reg well, I do remember meeting him a number of times having coffee in the staff room during the years when his daughters were in elementary school. I also wanted to say that the song "Promise To The World" that he wrote with his mother, is one of my favourites, and one that conveys a sincere faith in a loving and redeeming God. May God comfort your family and everyone who knew Reg. - Posted by: Betsy Bergen (acquaintance) on: Dec 28, 2013

Reg and I crossed paths a few times when I was in the publishing industry - and many more times after (usually at the JCC). He was a stand-up guy who loved a good conversation. He left his mark on many students at The U of MB, and he will absolutely be missed by many. - Posted by: Murray Moman (acquaintance) on: Dec 28, 2013
