I worked with Wally years ago at Government Services. Just like a previous comment made by Grant Norman, I too remember the "rent a nerd" and it was a very event in the office. Wally was always such a kind person, true gentleman. I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Pauline (Worked with Wally) on: Jan 11, 2014

Ev and family, I was so sorry to hear of Wally's passing. You don't know me, my name is Grant Norman, I worked with Wally for 20 years at Government Services. I'm going to miss sseing Wally at our annual luncheons. Wally was a highly respected, good natured man who always had something nice to say about everyone, he was a pleasure to work with. I remember a story where it was either his birthday or his retirement where we all chipped in to hire a "Rent a Nerd", we were having lunch in the downstairs canteen and in burst this geek with rolled up pants, high boots, braces, taped glasses, spiked hair, carrying a suitcase and announced in a loud voice "Wally, Wally Baran". Wally sheepishly raised his hand and this guy walked over and announced he was Wally's cousin from out of town and needed a place to stay. The whole place went into an uproar including Wally once he realized it was all a joke. Wally had a good sense of humour. My condolences to you and your family. You must be all proud to have had such a fine man as a husband, father and grandfather. Thank you, Grant Norman PS: I'm really sorry I won't be able to attend the service, I will be in Ottawa visiting my young grandchildren and their parents. Just remember all the good times you had with Wally, I know there were lots. - Posted by: Grant Norman (Worked with Wally) on: Jan 05, 2014
