ROLLIE RAMOS 1946 - 2013 It is with great sadness that the Ramos family announces the death of Rolando 'Rollie' Cruz Ramos on December 31, 2013, at the age of 67. A fit, adventurous individual, Rollie leaves the world too soon following a battle with leukemia. The Ramos family would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba D6, Health Science Centre and Seven Oaks Hospital for their efforts. Rollie was born on September 28, 1946, and hailed from Baliuag, Bulacan, Philippines, where he was the youngest of seven children born to Apolonio and Maria Ramos. Also known as 'Dodo,' Rollie immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1974, where he worked as a quality specialist at Versatile, New Holland and, most recently, Dixon Group. He always strived to be a better employee, constantly taking additional training courses and educational programs. After falling in love with a sassy younger woman, Rollie married in 1975. His quiet nature balanced by his wife's outgoingness, Rollie remained a loyal and happy husband. Rollie was also a dutiful dad, the father of three very different daughters. He was proud of his girls - two of them becoming nurses like their mother - and he was, of course, pleased that they gave him grandsons! Longtime residents of Winnipeg, the Ramos' eventually moved to the R.M. of St. Andrews. Rollie enjoyed caring for the family's pets, which included a chinchilla, eating excessively charred barbecue and taiko drumming. What he loved doing most, however, was golfing. You'd find him on the links nearly every weekend and he inevitably became a golf instructor. He was a club pro at Netley Creek Golf and Country Club. Rollie is survived by his three daughters: Kathy, Jaimie and Chantal; son-in-laws Paul, Doug and Steve; grandchildren Aaron, Lauren, Anthony, Alexander, Aidan, Nathan and Jace; sister Julie, brother-in-law Ricardo, niece Michelle; and numerous other family members and friends both in Canada and overseas. He follows into God's Kingdom his beloved wife, Lenore Grayda Ramos, who lost her own battle to illness in in 2002. The couple are also reunited with their son, Jonathan, who died in 1979. With Lenore there to supply the merriment, may Rollie rest in peace, free to play all the rounds he could ever want. The viewing for Rollie Ramos will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4477 Main St., in West St. Paul, Manitoba. The first opportunity to pay respects will take place Friday, Janury 10, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., with prayers at 7):00 p.m. The following day, Saturday, January 11, prayers will start at 10:00 a.m., with a formal service to follow. The family asks that attendees wear something orange in support of leukemia research. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

  • Kuya Rollie, as your high school classmates addressed you, considered you as our big and older brother. You were respected in the class for being humble but bright student. Although we had not met after graduation, facebook reconnected us. I still remember you because you left indelible memories of our high school days. I was expecting we would be able to play golf and would enjoy playing with you. It would no longer happen because you left us so early. May you rest in peace and I commiserate with your family during this this time of mourning. - Posted by: Victor Pascual (High School classmate-Mariano Ponce High School) on: Jan 04, 2014

  • Rollie was a jack of all trades. A very interesting man to have a conversation with because of his many talents. Great golfer and instructor, played guitar, drums and was a dedicated family man. He loved his family and doted on his grandchildren. Just like his beloved Lenore, they left us too soon but all the memories will always be treasured. - Posted by: Lisa Deakin (Sister-in-law) on: Jan 04, 2014

  • We all miss you but know you're happy to be reunited with mom. Hope we made you proud. - Posted by: Kathryn Magnaye (daughter) on: Jan 04, 2014
