KATHARINA (TINA) BAERG (nee PETERS) December 21, 1929 - January 3, 2014 Tina, aged 84, passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks on January 3, 2014, after losing her battle with liver illness. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Jake, children Vic (Ellen) and Erica, grandchildren: Colleen (Marco), Derek (Hoa), Patrick and Victoria; and great-grandchildren: Milan, Anson and Lilia. Tina was born in Osterwick, Russia. At the age of 13, Tina with her family escaped Russia and fled to Gronau, Germany. There Tina worked in the farm fields and after six years (1948) Tina was baptized and her faith in God never weakened. The family then resettled in Coaldale, Alberta (1949) and again she worked in the fields. There Tina met her husband, Jake and they married in 1952. In 1955, she had a son, Victor. The family moved to Winnipeg and Tina had a daughter Erica in 1957. Tina joined the North Kildonan Mennonite Church and served as a deacon for 19 years. Tina's true love was flowers and she ran a successful flower business for 25 years. In 1973, they purchased a cabin at Big Whiteshell Lake, which still serves as a meeting point for her family. Tina devoted her life to family and friends and her goal was always to make people around her happy. She was always kind, generous and caring. Tina arranged family meetings every single week for dinner, conversation, and card games. Her legacy is written in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered and missed. We would like to thank all the people from home care and Seven Oaks for all their help and care for Tina. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch St., Winnipeg, with viewing prior to the service. A private interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, Winnipeg. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Tina may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 5K9. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Our prayers and sympathies go out to the Baerg family. May God's comfort be with you at this time. - Posted by: Will & Elly Jagusch (nephew) on: Jan 06, 2014

  • We so wish we could be there with you guys in this time of sadness. What a blessing though, to be comforted in that your mother is with her Lord, Whom she worshiped and served in so many practical ways. We especially appreciated your mother's warm hospitality with the home made chicken soup, noodles, rollkuchen and perogies on the menu every time we dropped in. She and Jake opened their home to me (Peter) when I needed a place to stay, the summer months while working in Wpg and then until I got married in 1963. I especially note their gracious and forgiving hearts towards me with my own quirks. I will miss her quick and cheerful response whenever I call and she calls me "my little baby brother". Tina, we will miss you but you are at peace now with the Lord whom you love so dearly! - Posted by: Peter & Rose Peters (Brother & Sister-in-law) on: Jan 06, 2014

  • I appreciate the 7 years that Tante Tina was my Winnipeg mom. Many weekends were spent @ the lake with so many good memories. I'm so glad I have the privilege of having those wonderful memories and now I want to remember her celebrating with Jesus in Heaven where she has no pain. So sorry for you as a family, May God be with you all as a family, especially Unkle Jake. In loving memories Tina and Henry. Dad and Mom would say they would love to be with you and say so many things too, but all they have is tears and sadness in their eyes. I think mom knows that her sister passed away. Soon they may be together again too. - Posted by: Henry and Tina Bergen (Niece) on: Jan 06, 2014

  • Our deepest sympathies on the passing of Oma Baerg. We know how much she meant to her family, and we also see evidence of her legacy through her family, especially Colleen who loves flowers too. May you know peace and comfort in this difficult time. All our love, Anna and Corey McCarthy xoxoxo - Posted by: Anna McCarthy (Friend of grand-daughter Colleen ) on: Jan 05, 2014

  • She loved children. I was the first of many nephews and nieces on the Peters side of the family. As such I remember Tante Tina bathing me. The picture of myself, covered in soap suds, with the laughter of her and my mother Anita, is still clear and dear to me. Both are now with the lord - together again! - Posted by: Rudy Jagusch (I am a nephew.) on: Jan 05, 2014

  • Herzliches Beileid to Jake and family. I am sorry that I cannot be there to say good-bye to Tina. I will miss talking to her very much. I will always remember our visits together for coffee in the afternoon. - Posted by: Regina Koke. (In Florida) (Friend) on: Jan 04, 2014
