KENNETH ARTHUR MILLER Peacefully on January 4, 2014, my dear husband of 58 years passed away at the Grace General Hospital. Ken was born in Winnipeg on July 10, 1931. He spent his earlier years in Neepawa, MB before moving to Winnipeg with his mother. Ken and I were married in 1955. He was a dedicated family man of our four children. For 28 years he served with the Winnipeg Police Department before retiring as a Sargeant of Detectives. Ken was a long time member of the Khartum Shriners and an active member for 30 years with the mighty Fife and Drum Unit. Ken will be sadly missed by his wife Joan, children Ken (Cindy), Barbara (Trevor), Keith (Debbie), and Sandy, and his seven grandchildren whom he adored and worshipped. Special thanks to the Grace Hospital 5 North Unit and especially Shelley Keast. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken's name to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. A come and go gathering will be held at 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB. "I've loved, I've laughed and cried. Friends since Kinsmen Days in Winnipeg, have been able to meet again in Victoria BC we were so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. Christmas card came back this year 2015 and had not heard until then. Our prayers are with you, Joan and you will have family near by to comfort you. I'll never forget your visit to Ottawa when you talked me into raising our son's allowance from 5 cents a week to 8 cents. - Posted by: Don & June Kilbank (Friends) on: Jan 07, 2016

Ken and I would email about our families. We never met, or at least I don't think so...I was in Winnipeg when I was six yrs old. It was a family connection connected through my great-uncle Les Miller. Ken and I shared stories and he made me feel like family just through our casual conversations. We last emailed in 2013...I think just after the cruise. I am sad to lose his connection but I am grateful that he shared. He spoke lovingly of Joan and that was wonderful to know in this age of so many breakups. I found this obit late, but my heart feels sad for the Miller family now. I wish you only peace to you all. hugs from Donna - Posted by: Donna Panusa (1st cousin, once removed. I am granddaughter of Alice Miller, daughter of Jack Mitchell.) on: Apr 13, 2015

To Joanie, Kennie, Barbie, Styx, Sandy, Debbie, Griff, and all the Grandchildren. I wish to express my heartfelt condolences. In being best of friends with Ken Jr. since a very young age, combined with the Millers living just a stone's throw away, I had the privilege of spending a great deal of time with the entire Miller Family, maybe more than they wanted at times :) Ken and Joan welcomed me into their home and refigerator like family each and every time. I will miss Ken's stories of his police work along with stories of Ken Miller..Private Eye. He was a family man with a love for sports..owned a great sense of humor and a big smile. If you know the family you can see the apple didn't fall far from the tree. If you needed policing..you'd get it. If you needed a laugh..he'd give it. Do you remember when.. Ken answered the phone at your apartment Kennie..he was all smiles just listening on the phone for about 40 seconds with a smile..then calmly said..you must be looking for my son..one moment please and handed you the phone..I know He did!Priceless. Ken..you will be greatly missed..and Yes, much more than this...You did it your way. Rest easy my friend. - Posted by: LEW (Friend) on: Jan 09, 2014

In the 'Pirates of Penzance', by Gilbert and Sullivan, we hear 'The Policeman's Song' identifying 'A Policeman's Lot is Not a Happy One.' Granted, our fellow Detectives, along with Ken and I were involved in some pretty serious cases - but we also shared a lot of good humour and sociability too. Ken enjoyed a good laugh. After we both retired, my wife Mary and I enjoyed Joan and Ken visiting us in B.C. and our visiting them in Winnipeg. Our sympathy is with you Joan and family, at this difficult time. - Posted by: Mary and Dick Hickling (colleague and friend) on: Jan 09, 2014

We are very sad today to hear of our dear family friend's passing. Ken was a great man who was always a pleasure to be around. We have gotten close through all the years with the Fife and Drum. Visits out at Sandy Hook after the Gimli parades or family dinners at D-Jay's were always great times to catch up with Ken. Mr. Miller you will be missed. Rest In Peace - Posted by: Robert, Michael & Heather "The Johnsons" (friends) on: Jan 06, 2014

Just want to offer my condolences to the Miller family. I recall Mr. Miller from years ago as a child, when he was playing in the fife and Drum with my Dad Ian Stuart. I always remember him being a really happy guy, loved kids and doing good for them with the Shriners. He always seemed to have a smile on his face. I'm sure my dad and Ken are sharing some laughs and maybe even "marching" around in a better place !!! RIP - Posted by: S Stuart (Friend of my Dads) on: Jan 06, 2014

Sad to hear the passing of another good guy. Kenny Miller was instrumental in guiding a couple of young detectives back in the 1980s (May and Simpson). There are many stories that came out of that pairing that are all false. Thanks for having our backs Ken. Our deepest condolences from the May Family. - Posted by: Frank May (Co-worker) on: Jan 06, 2014

Mrs. Miller, Ken, Barb, Keith, Sandy, and families, we were saddened to hear of Mr. Miller's passing. Many many fond memories are held of Mr. Miller. To this day every time I drive onto Freemont, I think of all of you. I have seen Sandy most recently with her aiding in my mom's health. Funny to know that we only live a few houses away again. God bless all of you. You are in our thoughts. (Herb and Bert Steinhauer also send their sympathies to all of you) - Posted by: Sheona (Steinhauer) and Dwayne Miller (Family friend) on: Jan 06, 2014
