META NORBERG March 28, 1919 - January 11, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Meta Norberg, who was surrounded by her loving family. Meta was born in the Ukraine, one of 11 children. Meta survived many hardships in her early years and immigrated to Canada in March, 1951, along with her young son Gerhard settling in Frobisher, Saskatchewan. Later that same year, Meta met and married Theodore Norberg. After marrying, they moved to Meadows, Manitoba where they began their life together farming. During their years on the farm, Meta was an invaluable partner performing meaningful chores such as gardening, baking, canning and even driving the combine. In addition to their farming years, church was also an important part of their lives, being active members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Meta and Ted raised three more children; two daughters and a son. Sadly in 1969, Meta's husband passed away suddenly. In 1973, Meta moved to Winnipeg where she continued to work hard to provide for her family. Visitors were always welcome and encouraged to share a meal. We will miss her delicious home cooking very much. Her love of her family and cooking was perhaps only surpassed by her love of singing. She loved to entertain us with a song or two and a story. She is survived by her four children; Gerhard (Yolanda), Ingrid (Larry), Rose, Emil (Cheryl), as well as four grandchildren; Gene, Garett (Jennifer), Carissa (Stephen), Emil Jr. (Jocelyn). Also survived by two sisters; Frieda and Marie and one brother Hubert. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren. Sadly, Meta was predeceased by two grandchildren Jeffrey and Deborah. Funeral services will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Rick Souer of St. Mark's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment and luncheon to follow. The family would also like to sincerely thank the caring staff at Luther Home. Flowers gratefully declined. Love you always Mom www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

We are greatly saddened by the loss of Oma. She was the backbone of your family and we were honoured and blessed to have known her through Stephen's marriage to Carissa. We loved to see her dance and clap at the parties and get togethers and share in her joy. We especially get a kick out of the "red cabbage incident" when you brought Oma over to our house for supper that night. Also, remember her giving Nana a massage? These are the little things that will give us a laugh along with the sorrow. Thank you Emil,Cheryl,Carissa and Emil Jr. for making us a part of this. Safe journey Oma. - Posted by: Randy and Debbie (Parents of son (Stephen) that married into the family (Carissa)) on: Jan 19, 2014

Dear Norberg Family, Brad and I were very saddened to hear of your mom's passing. Many times we think back to our younger days in Meadows having you as our neighbours, Emil, Brad and I playing road hockey, sharing many birthday parties at the camp, your father and our grandpa sharing many happy times together and some sad ones. Your mom and our grandma at their sides to share them as well. As I read other posts, the mention of singing brought back so many memories of all the singing that took place at the camp. Where has all time gone? Brad and I would like to extend our most sincere condolences to you all and we have you in our hearts and prayers at this sad time. - Posted by: glen and bradley brown (friend and meadows neighbour) on: Jan 19, 2014

MY SINCERE SYMPATHY. I ENJOYED MANY HOURS TALKING TO YOUR MOM AND SINGING GERMAN SONGS ON MY FRONT STEPS. I DON'T THINK THE NEIGHBOURS ENJOYED IT BUT SHE SURE DID. I MISSED HER WHEN SHE WENT TO THE HOME, I WAS GLAD IT WAS LUTHER HOME. SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN DISTRESSED TO HEAR MY HUSBAND ABE PASSED AWAY AS SHE WAS VERY FOND OF HIM. SHE IS IN A BETTER PLACE AND WITH OUR SAVIOUR. ALL BLESSINGS - Posted by: Caroline Mitchel (Neighbour 147 Bannerman) on: Jan 18, 2014
