I was so sorry to read about Marvin's passing in the On Manitoba Alumni news magazine. He and I were classmates through university. We had coffee together almost every day at UMSU. Marvin had to have been Captain Kirk's biggest fan. So sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Tom Gillson (University classmate and friend) on: May 07, 2014

My deepest condolences to Margaret and family. I just returned from Florida and was shocked to hear of Marvin's passing. We were friends and neighbors for many years till losing touch. All the previous comments on his character are very true. His middle names were Kindness and Humility and they broke the mold when they made Marvin. His late mother was also a very caring, kind lady and we spent much time with her when our children were young. Though I was unaware he had passed till my return home I am at least consoled that both my sons were able to attend his funeral. I shall miss him and often have done, but loved ones live on in our hearts and I owe him a great deal for his many offers of help and his advice. Remember Margaret: after the Mourning will come a glorious Morning. You two were well suited to each other. May your faith keep away the shadows and God bless you all. Although Marvin and I have not had much contact over the years, I can still recall fond memories of playing music together. Last year Marvin tracked me down and presented me with a beautiful book on music. I will forever treasure this gift and his sincere kindness. I also remember Marvin being a very caring, thoughtful and talented person. My deepest sympathy to Margaret and family. - Posted by: David Skomerowski (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2014

Marvin was the epitome of a gentleman and a gentle man. He dearly loved his family and was kind, gracious and helpful to his friends. He will be missed, but unfortunately it was his time to go. Rest in Peace Marvin. - Posted by: Beverly Frederickson (Friend, family) on: Jan 23, 2014

Marvin changed my life, He did this by being just the way he was, kind and giving. Over 20 years ago we both volunteered for a local boy scout group. Marv thought I may be interested in the latest "stuff" they had been working on at Hydro (construction and Building science manuals) He was right and I read every manual he gave me cover to cover. He was willing to invest his time to help out a young guy. With that small gift of his time and the knowledge I gained from reading those manuals gave my career path an immediate right turn for the better! This knowledge gained opened so many lucrative opportunities for me and my family that I could have never imagined before Marv's "gift" to me. I am sure there are countless others like me that have benefited from Marv's kindness. Whenever I can, I try and live by Marv's example and give encouragement to folks who may be able to use it. To me Marv was the true example of "pay it forward" Our sympathies to his family, he will be missed and was truly one of a kind! - Posted by: Mark Ranson and family (friend) on: Jan 22, 2014

Dear Margaret & Family, I'm so very sorry for your loss. It was my good fortune to work with Marv at Manitoba Hydro. The eclectic state of his office, piles and piles of documents on the floor...always made me smile. I remember asking Marv for some statistical information. He quickly looked in one of his many piles of papers and found it within seconds. The date on it was almost ten years old! But he knew exactly where to find it. Lovely man. It was my privilege to know him. Rennie - Posted by: Rennie Bodi (Manitoba Hydro colleague) on: Jan 19, 2014

Profound sympathy to Margaret, Alexandra, David, Kristina, & extended family. I am blessed to call Marvin my friend, & even more blessed that he would call me friend. We have shared many great activities, thanks in large part to our son's friendship (David & Chad) - Beavers & Cubs, a number of years riding in the MS Bike Tour, chill-laxin in Gimli, & Coffee!! So long for now, my friend. You fought the good fight! - Posted by: Bob Caverly (An old buddy) on: Jan 18, 2014

To have known Marvin is to have seen a holy person at work on Earth. I have never known Marvin to turn down a request to help someone, and I have never seen a man so devoted to his wife and children and grandchild. He seemed to find deep joy and satisfaction in doing things for others; never did he seek rewards or want to be heaped with praise. He was such a humble and loving and giving man -- one of those priceless gems that so few people ever encounter. And yet I did encounter all things Good in Marvin. What a tremendous, deep void is now left by his disappearance on Earth. I like to think that he will forever be with his family and friends in spirit. Certainly, all the positive things he did in Life will be remembered and cherished by me and by all who had the great, great privilege of knowing him. - Posted by: Cathy Carlyle (Friend, Neighbour) on: Jan 18, 2014
