Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN KELLER August 19, 1928 - January 23, 2014 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the age of 85 years. He passed away after a lengthy illness in the comfort of his own home with his loving wife at his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ag, daughters Pat (Tom) and Susan, grandchildren, Melissa and Justin, brother Jack along with numerous other family and friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Pauline and Alexander, brothers and sisters Pauline, Anne, Millie, Kay, Alec, Henry, Betty and Peter and his grandson Christopher. John was born and raised in Winnipeg's North End. He attended Faraday and Isaac Newton Schools and was a regular at CUAC Community Centre excelling in every sport he played. His love of sports continued throughout his life. He was a devoted fan of the Bombers, Jets and Goldeyes. He loved playing cards with family and friends and teaching his children and grandchildren the lessons of fair play and sportsmanship. John worked for Globelite, later Varta Batteries, for 42 years and was the union representative for his shop for many of those years. There he met his sweetheart Ag. They married in 1954 and enjoyed 59 beautiful years together. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, mentor and friend. John had a gentle, easygoing personality and was always willing to lend a sympathetic ear or a shoulder to lean on. He was a man of few words but others sought his counsel often knowing his advice would be sage and non-judgemental. John loved his family deeply and he is loved and will always be loved as deeply by all of us. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Pallbearers will be Tom Ollevier, Justin Ollevier, Brian Keller, Rick Keller, Rob Penner and David Storozuk. I left Winnipeg almost 60 yrs. ago (1957) but always had great memories of playing pickup games of hockey, football, & baseball at C.U.A.C. with John. He was a hero to myself and many of the other younger participants trying to get into the game, and he treated all of us equally with respect and guidance. We all wanted to be on John's side in picking teams. In sometimes hanging out at Nick's Drug Store I got to know John better. He had a great wit and an enormous amount of common sense and I do mean enormous. I am fortunate to have known him. His family can surely be proud of him.
