HELENA VOGT October 7, 1927 - January 21, 2014 Helena Vogt passed away at the Victoria Hospital on January 21, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents George and Mary Vogt, sisters and brothers-in-law Justina (Alfie Moosienko) (Cecil Linaker), Annie, Katherine (Ed) Gracie, Abe Guenther and two brothers in infancy. Survived by sisters Mary Guenther, Neta, Elma (Alvin) Hein, Ledda (Victor) Bernacki, brother George (Mary), and numerous nephews and nieces. She was born in the RM of Rhineland, MB. Helen grew up on the farm during the difficult years in southwest Manitoba. She graduated from high school at Ninette and the family continued living there during the war years. She moved to Snowflake, MB with her family and started working at the Crystal City Hospital as a nurses aide. Helen then moved to Winnipeg and started her training as a L.P.N. and graduated in 1949. During the polio outbreak 1952 - 1953 she worked tirelessly at the King George Hospital alongside Dr. Hildies and others on many 16 hour shifts for a number of months to aid the polio patients in suctioning them and other comforting duties. Along with Dr. Hildies they were recognized for their outstanding contribution to the patients' comfort during the crises. She graduated from the Winnipeg Bible Institute and attended the Central Alliance Church. She had served as a camp nurse for the Canadian Sunday School Mission and taught Sunday School for many years. Her nursing career took her to different places and she retired from nursing after many years at the Grace Hospital. The family expresses sincere thanks to the staff at the Poseidon Care Centre for the kind care that she received while she resided there. Many thanks to the staff at Victoria Hospital for the compassionate care that she received in the emergency ward and then in room 406. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg with Pastor Phil Edwards officiating.
