Date of Passing: Jan 22, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH MADELINE JOHNSON (nee RIDGE) It is with great sadness, the family of Ruth Madeline Johnson announce her passing on January 22, 2014. Ruth passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital at the age of 88 years with family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Henry, son Gary, and grandson Neil. Numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and her only sister, June Stewart, also predeceased her. Ruth is survived by daughters Wendy (Frank Seidel) and Bev (Ken Brinkworth), son Lloyd and daughter-in-law Bev, grandchildren Tara Nichols (Dennis), Kevin Johnson (Alison), Andrew Seidel, Graham Seidel (Kim), April Husak (Aaron), Darrin Husak, Alexandra Johnson, Allison Brinkworth, Blaine Brinkworth, and Mackenzie Johnson. She is also survived by five great-granddaughters Brianna Nichols, Kennedy and Brooklyn Seidel, and Meadow and Paige Seidel, brother-in-law Ruben Johnson, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ruth was born July 7, 1925, in Winnipeg, to Elmore and Madeline Ridge. Ruth and Henry were married June 3, 1950, and farmed in Rosser until Henry's passing in 1977. She continued living on the farm until 2004 when she moved to Stonewall. From Stonewall she moved to Sturgeon Creek II in 2007. In past years, Ruth had been very involved in 4-H, Rosser and Grosse Isle Community Clubs, curling, bowling, knitting, sewing, and card or board games. Right up until she went into the hospital in November she played poker at Sturgeon Creek II with her friends. She rarely missed a shuttle outing with driver Peter with the group at Sturgeon Creek II and she continued to knit until she entered hospital. Ruth was affectionately known to many as "Granny". She loved family get-togethers and often had a rye on the rocks or a cold beer with family or friends. Some of her favourite times were attending the sports or other events that everyone was involved in. She went to many baseball, soccer and hockey games, and Christmas or spring concerts. She often went on gambling excursions by bus, and as many will remember, she loved that red truck (Clifford). The family would like to thank the compassionate and caring staff at Grace Hospital, not only for her last hospitalization but for the many she had over the past few years. The physicians, nurses, therapists, health care aides, and spiritual care were all very kind to mom. We also express heartfelt thanks to the staff and friends at Sturgeon Creek II. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Stonewall, following private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Hospital Foundation or the charity of one's choice. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME STONEWALL 204-467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

I have many great memories of spending time with Ruth & the family. I always enjoyed staying overnight at the farm house with the cousins when we were young. Later, I remember spending time in the motorhome, rye and cokes were always on hand. She told me many stories of how she & my mom were not only cousins, but good friends. Saw Ruth many times, over the years, at the Racetrack. So glad I was able to visit with her last summer when we were home in Winnipeg. So sad to hear she has passed. - Posted by: Maureen Gros (cousin) on: Feb 12, 2014

I always enjoyed the times I was able to have a chat with Ruth, which was typically at a hockey or baseball game. She even became a good luck charm for Blaine's baseball team a few years back. She was a great lady and will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Rick Baldwin (Friend) on: Jan 26, 2014

She was a lady that enjoyed life and it radiated to the ones around her. Elvin and I remember all the Blue Jay games in Grosse Isle where she cheered and supported the guys no matter what. Sorry we will be unable to attend on Monday, but our thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Wendy and Elvin Unger (friend) on: Jan 26, 2014

Our sincere condolences to all of the Johnson families. We so enjoyed the company of your Mom and many good times were had when the Blair and Johnsons got together. Your mom lived life to the fullest but her body was letting her down these last few years. I am glad that I had those few minutes to talk with her just before what turned out to be her final trip to the hospital. She did have a smile for us that will be remembered. - Posted by: Barry and Judy Baldwin () on: Jan 25, 2014
