Words cannot describe the saddness I felt when I heard of your passing. You are a true "North Ender". Many years have passed since I have lived in the Peg, but your name still comes up in legendary stories of your escapades. Highest on the list was one Super Bowl party I attended with the entire gang. During the festivities, Garry disappeared for a while. Then, all of a sudden, above the swinging doors of the kitchen, an oven glove appeared, holding a lit Roman Candle! With bodies flying for cover, that thing started spittin out flames that flew out, across the apartment in mid air and straight out the open balcony doors! I just know Garry is setting off fireworks right now while giving somebody one of his famous bearhugs! No need to tell you Garry....You were one of a kind, I will never forget you and waaaay too early Brother! Thoughts and Prayers to you and your Family. - Posted by: Bob Chomyn (Old Friend) on: Feb 06, 2014

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of my old friend Gary. We both grew up in the North End and lived in what we called the "the barracks". It was a great place to grow up and the memories I have of Gary are priceless! What a character! As Tim Steinhauer said "Gary was tough as nails". Gary was a stand up guy and you knew without a shadow of doubt he had your back. The last time I saw Gary was at my wedding in 1989 where his daughter Melanie caught the wedding bouquet. I am very sorry I was unable to attend the funeral service as I was out of the country. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Robert Campbell (childhood friend) on: Feb 03, 2014

"Guy" and I had some great times together growing up in Winnipeg's infamous North End! We hung out and played a lot of hockey together, with fond memories of walking a mile or more on a very cold Winnipeg winter evening to get to a practice at the outdoor rink at CPAC. The stories are endless with many laughs. He always had a nickname for one of the "gang". And yes, he always had your back, a buddy you could always count on, tough as nails. It's been over 30 years since we last saw and spoke to each other, but in some ways it feels like just yesterday; I can still hear his voice, his smile and his laugh. RIP buddy..."Stan" - Posted by: Tim Steinhauer (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2014

The flood of memories that are filling my mind bring a giant smile to my face in sad times. I will never forget popping in to visit you on the nightshifts with a six pack or the time you and the professor took me out for a night on the town. Letting me tag along with you to a Jet's game at the old arena with the head hunters and selling me the Cutlass back in the day are all great memories growing up around you! You were nothing but kind to me and the pleasure was mine. - Posted by: Darren (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2014

Sorry and saddened to hear about your early passing Gary. My condolences go out to your family and loved ones. Gary will be remembered as a leader and someone who stood up for what he believed in. He was famous for giving out advice, especially to young employees new to his workplace. Not only did Gary give advice on daily work, but also on life in general. Gary was an avid sports fan and claimed he knew who won the Stanley cup in each year since the beginning of the nhl. He also loved to argue that Bobby Orr was the greatest player of all time. We would often purposely bring up this argument to see Gary's passion come out to defend his side. Gary also loved sharing his high school football stories and often talked about his grandson's soccer games. Everyone that worked with Gary has fond memories of "the chrome". Wherever you are Gary, you are sure to be a legend just as you were at work. - Posted by: Mitch Kasprick (co-worker) on: Jan 29, 2014

My deepest condolences to Garry's family and friends. The last time I ran into Garry was years ago at Notre dame and Isabel. It was like high school all over and this time I was able to give him a hand because in school whether on the field or off if you needed a hand, Garry was there. RIP MY FRIEND. - Posted by: Len Small (School/football/youth collaborator friend) on: Jan 29, 2014

Hi Garry it's been a long long time but just want to let you know I fondly remember the times we spent slinging garbage in Elmwood, covering for each other at the Springfield Landfill site doing things we shouldn't have been doing, playing headhunters football and cheering for the old Jets and having my back covered at more than one social. I will miss you Gary. Cheers my friend till we meet again in the big gridiron in the sky - Posted by: Gary Dolski (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2014

I have many fond memories of our elementary school class room times together. Garry loved singing "The Fox," playing floor hockey and telling many sports yarns. We played defense together for the Sisler Spartans football team. The opposing team was 3rd and goal from our 1 yard line and Chromy screamed out, "What is this? An Alamo? Not only did we stop them but Garry caused a fumble and recovered the fumble. We wnt on to win that game. Garry was a very passionate person. He was a leader and very inspirational. Sorry I did not have a chance to say good bye, my friend. Your enthusiasm lives on in all of our hearts. Hope to see you and tell you a few stories on the other side... - Posted by: Larry Smith (Friend) on: Jan 28, 2014

Oh my. I am so sorry Garry that I didn't get a chance to see you one last time. I am sorry that you didn't know how much I cared about you and thought about you often. We used to chase each other around the Lord Nelson playground and one time I grabbed onto your jacket and your mother brought you to our house and I was so sorry that I got you into trouble. I am glad that you grew up to have children and grandchildren. I am sorry that you left them far too soon. I hope you had a good life, although far too short. I hope you can read this and know that I always cared about you and thought about you more than many others that were in my life. I pray you find comfort and peace and rest my friend Garry.
