FLORENCE RUTH ADAMCHUK Florence Ruth Adamchuk (nee Drewlo), child of God, wife of Gary, mother of Dylan, Garett, and Jordan, daughter of Tillie Drewlo, sister of Donna, completed her journey on this earth on Saturday, January 25, 2014. She is also survived by Donna's husband, Bert Ottenson and their family: Nickolas; Christopher, Wendy and daughter Amelia; Nathan and Pam; also Gary's family: sister Debbie Adamchuk and husband, Tony Karpinsky; sister, Sharon and husband Scott Johnston and their family, and Aunt Gladys Lyzun. She was predeceased by her father, Art Drewlo, and Gary's parents Steve and Olive Adamchuk. Florence spent the first 15 years of her life in Beausejour, MB. She then moved to Winnipeg with her family and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1972. Florence spent most of her career in education. She and Gary married in 1973. They lived in Windsor Park for over 35 years and their door was always open to whomever passed through. Florence was an avid gardener, an enthusiastic musician, a creative crafter, a welcoming hostess and a dedicated volunteer, but most of all a good and true friend to countless people in numerous circles. The role she took the greatest pride in was wife and mother. The Adamchuk home became a second home to her sons' many friends. She welcomed them, encouraged them, fed them but most of all accepted them unconditionally. It was not uncommon to hear, even to this day, "Hey, Mrs. A, how you doing?" called across a neighbourhood parking lot. Although she lived with cancer for over nine years, she did not let it dominate her life nor diminish her spirit. She continued to enjoy all of her interests, including travel. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 30 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 600 Cambridge Street, Winnipeg, MB with Pastor Rick Sauer officiating. The family would like to sincerely thank all the health care providers involved in Florence's care but especially the staff at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit for all their care and support to Florence and the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Boniface Palliative Care, A8112-409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6, or Canadian Lutheran World Relief, 600-177 Lombard Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 0W5.
