ELEANOR TAIT Eleanor Florence Tait of Winnipeg, MB, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 86, on January 7, 2014. Eleanor, the first child to parents David and Molly Yauk, was born in Winnipeg on April 22, 1927. She was married to Roy Andrew William Tait on September 8, 1948 and they enjoyed 48 years together until his passing in 1997. Eleanor and Roy spent many winters escaping from the cold down in Arizona, and their summers out at the cottage. An avid bowler in her later years, she enjoyed league play at the Polo Park and Rossmere Bowling Centres. Eleanor was passionate about world affairs and of course, her beloved Blue Jays. She was never one to shy away from a conversation on either. Eleanor was predeceased by her brothers Arnie and Ray Yauk and is survived by brothers Harold, Irv and Mel Yauk and many nieces, nephews and friends. Cremation has taken place and, at Eleanor's request, no service will be held. Her ashes have been placed with Roy's in the Matthew-Mark Columbarium at Green Acres Memorial Gardens.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I am so grateful for the wonderful memories I have visiting my Aunt Eleanor and Uncle Roy. The love and bond they had for each other was always evident. During my childhood, when we went to visit, Aunt Eleanor would always allow me to play with the dress shoes she kept in her closet. I loved visiting them not only at their home, but at their cottage on the lake. One year, my Dad and I were able to visit them in Yuma, AZ. The freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious!! It was great to reminisce with my Aunt about the days with Uncle Roy who had such a great sense of humour. My Aunt's classy, calm demeanor and generosity will be missed. Love you Auntie!! xxx - Posted by: Corrine Woolley (nee Yauk) (Niece) on: Feb 04, 2014

  • Mrs Tait was like a second mother. She welcomed all of us into her home every day. I remember playing will Dell her dalmation as well as the poodle in their tiny back yard. We spent many an afternoon sitting around and talking while sharing her favourite Sherbet. Every Christmas Eve they would come to our house for a visit if they were not down south. We often looked after their home while they were away. The fresh oranges they brought back from their trees in the south were always welcome. You will always stay in my heart. • Eleanor was one of so many precious cousins I was privileged to have close to me in my childhood and young adult years. I always looked up to Eleanor, for so many reasons. I'm grateful she lived a long and healthy life and was able to remain in her home til the end. We'll all be together again very soon now. Thank you Eleanor for all the wonderful memories I have of you and Roy, our very own WW2 hero. - Posted by: Joan (nee Heffel) Gerus (cousin (our mothers were sisters)) on: Jan 27, 2014
