Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL ALDEN RUIZ July 13, 1990 - January 25, 2014 Peacefully, surrounded by family, our dearest son, brother, nephew, uncle and grandson, Michael Alden Ruiz, joined our Creator and became our guardian angel on January 25, 2014 at the MICU of Health Sciences Centre. Our family was blessed with the birth of Michael on July 13, 1990 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. From the first hour of his life, he was faced with multiple medical challenges, which led to numerous and sometimes long admissions in the hospital, but each time Michael showed us his survivor spirit. After spending the first two years of his life in the hospital, Michael lived at home with his parents and sister who have always provided him unconditional love. He was a very happy and vibrant person and touched the hearts of everyone he met. Michael had a contagious, radiant smile which lit up the room and made the day brighter for people around him. Thomas the Tank Engines and Barney were his buddies and he enjoyed music, watching game shows like Jeopardy and Price Is Right as well as sports like basketball, baseball and bowling. He enjoyed attending the day program at St. Amant Centre. Michael graduated High School from Maples Collegiate in 2011. Michael will be greatly missed by his parents Tante and Alda, sister Amanda (Allan), and numerous great-aunts and great-uncles, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members in Winnipeg and the Philippines. He was predeceased by his grandparents Simeon and Feliza Ruiz and Julieta Sugayan. Our family would like to extend a special thanks to his home care nurses Yvonne, Shaji, Sharon, Jodi, Janice, Bryan, and Cadz; staff, doctors, and nurses at the Children's Hospital ER, PICU, PSCU and at the Health Sciences Centre ER and MICU as well as Pediatric and Adult Respirology, Respiratory and Home Care Department who provided him exceptional care all through the years. Our family and friends who have been our support and lifeline in times of challenging and difficult times all these years deserve our heartfelt gratitude as well. Viewing (Lamay) to be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, with Prayers at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 748 Keewatin Street with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens and a reception to follow. Tante, Alda, Amanda and Allan, please accept my deepest sympathy. I've never been able to forget Michael's goofy smile, or his special methods of communicating his displeasure. I ducked his flying spectacles more than a few times... I never see Barney or Thomas without thinking of Michael and the pure joy they brought him, even when he was too sick to show it. I know his passing has left a huge empty spot in your world, but I also know that he will never be far away. God bless. - Posted by: Jan Fortier (PICU RN) on: Feb 05, 2014

My Dear dear Mikey! We are all going to miss you tremendously! Family gatherings will not be the same without you! Your huge smile & laughter, your undeniable expression of happiness and most of all, your extreme enthusiasm when we all sing "Happy Birthday" to anyone is going to be missed! There will be a hole in all our family pictures and there will be a void in our hearts now that you are gone! But we will never, never forget you!! And as Thomas the Tank Engine says " Little Engines can do big things, especially when they have nice blue paint like me." Mikey, you were a "little engine" who showed all of us that anything is possible when you have faith and trust in God! Love you Mikey! - Posted by: Michelle Ramos (Cousin & Godmother) on: Jan 29, 2014
