RAYMONDE GIRARD (née DUFAULT) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Raymonde (Rae) Girard, on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the St. Boniface Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Charles, parents Israel and Gracia (Beauchemin) Dufault, brothers Léo Dufault, Rudy Dufault (Delores), sister Eveline Chabot (Maurice), brother-in-law Athanase d'Auteuil, nephews Gilbert d'Auteuil, Robert Dufault and great-nephew Brodie Chabot. Raymonde will be lovingly remembered by her children Elaine (Richard) Lyew, Hubert (Claudette) and Joanne (Robert) Gomercic; grandchildren, Isaiah Lyew, Joshua, Sarah and Eric Girard, Matthieu and Danica Gomercic. She is also survived by her sisters Jacqueline d'Auteuil, Yvette (Carl) Trumbla, Rita Lacombe, Gisèle (Frank) Vinci and brother Gérald (Marjorie) Dufault, sisters-in-law Evelyn Dufault, Claire Allard, Béatrice (Raynald) Lavack, Rose, Odile and brother-in-law Joseph, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, friends and relatives. Raymonde was born on September 25, 1939 in Ile-des-Chênes, Manitoba. Her family later moved to St. Boniface where she attended school at l'Ecole Marion and l'Académie St. Joseph. She later married Charles in 1961 and had three children. She worked for MTS for many years and then for the Government of Manitoba until her retirement. Mémère was a kind, humble and thoughtful person who enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. She was completely devoted to her family. She loved baking and cooking for them and would always have a treat ready to give them. She also looked forward to playing cards with a nice cup of tea. Mémère's courage and strength during her illness were an inspiration to us all. She had a strong faith in God and this enabled her to live each day with a positive outlook. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lotocki, Dr. Altman, Dr. Popowich, and Dr. Dean, the wonderful staff at CancerCare Manitoba and all the nurses and staff (her angels) on the 6th floor at St. Boniface Hospital for their wonderful care, kindness and compassion. Prayers will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons St. on Thursday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Parish, 135 John Forsyth Rd., River Park South. Reception will follow. Interment at Green Acres Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Raymonde's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
