TEAKE VAN DER ZWEEP February 19, 1926 - January 26, 2014 After a brief illness, Teake van der Zweep passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife Jitske (Jessie), and five children Perry (Tracy), Nicholas (Jacquie), Felicia (Trevor), Julia (James), John (Carla), and nine grandchildren Sarah, Matthew, Michael, Adrian, Charlotte, Campbell, Latham, Daniel, Ian. He is also survived by his siblings, Siebe (Netty), Ben (Tony), Betty, Vicky, Theresa (Joe), John (Greta), Edward (Gerda), Nellie, and was predeceased by brother Sjerd, and sister Mary (Stan). Teake was born on February 19, 1926 in Friesland, Netherlands, as the eldest child of Jeltje and Pier van der Zweep. Teake's family immigrated to Canada in 1950 and bought a farm near Balmoral, where they fulfilled their dream of owning and operating a dairy farm. Teake married Jessie (Bonekamp), also from Friesland in 1960 and soon purchased their own farm where they built a hog and grain operation. In 1991 Teake and Jessie retired to Stonewall, Manitoba. Teake was a devout member of the Stonewall Roman Catholic Church. Besides long hours on the farm, raising five children and helping a neighbour in need, Teake enjoyed reading and talking politics. He lived his life with honesty and integrity. The family would like to thank Michelle Lohmer and all Home Care and Palliative Care staff who cared for him with great compassion in his final weeks. A funeral mass will be held at Stonewall Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on February 13, 2014. Teake's ashes will be spread on the family farm where he shall be ever present in the minds and hearts of those who knew and loved him.
