Date of Passing: Dec 23, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHELMA GLADYS MARY PETERSON (nee TEAL) Peacefully at Fred Douglas Lodge on December 23, 2013, our beloved mother and grandmother Thelma passed away at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by our dad and her husband Aage, her parents Ernie and Hilda Teal, and her brothers Oswald and Cyril. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory her children: Marilyn (Ivan) Piniuta, David (Deanne), Glen (Christine), and Brian (Sandra), her grandchildren Brent (Melanie), Brad, Ashley, Jeremy, Eric and her great -granddaughters Emily and Audrey. She also leaves to mourn her passing two sisters-in-law, Pearl Teal and Lillian Cockburn, as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Thelma was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on March 24, 1923, moving with her family to Winnipeg as a young girl. There she met and later married our dad Aage Peterson in July 1944. She was a homemaker and as children growing up, we went on many family camping vacations together. Mom was a devout member of the Anglican Church and her church was always an important part of her life. She attended St. Jude's Church in her early years followed by St. Anne's Anglican Church in West Kildonan. She was involved with the St. Anne's Ladies Group (SALS) and had many wonderful friends there. Thelma was always a very sociable, outgoing person who loved people. She enjoyed music, whether it be playing the piano, singing or dancing and continued to love anything music related right up until her passing. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge for the kindness and compassion shown to mom throughout her lengthy stay there. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of Thelma's life will be held at St. Francis Anglican Church (formerly St. Anne's Anglican Church), 253 Burrin Ave. (corner of Burrin and Aikins) in West Kildonan at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 with Rev. Michael Bruce officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma's memory may be made if one so chooses, to St. Francis Anglican Church (formerly St. Anne's Anglican Church) or to a charity of one's choice. We love you mom and will miss you. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
