ANNA TARNOPOLSKI 1929 - 2014 On January 29, 2014, Anna Tarnopolski quietly returned Home to her Creator. She died at Betel Home Foundation in Selkirk, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her husband Carl in 2002, her parents Robert and Frances Piec, and her six siblings. She is survived by five children: Fr. Carl, Patrick (Brenda), Mary (Terry) Whitwell, Frances Hallson, and Eugene (Elizabeth); seven grandchildren: Philip (Sheila), Paula (Jason) Sowany, Janelle, Heather (Chris) Pakkala, Denise (Clint) Bishop, David (Jennifer), and Michelle (Tyler) Zitting; ten great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Anita Tarnopolski and numerous nephews and nieces. Anna was born in Fish Creek, Saskatchewan in 1929, the only member of her family - recently arrived from Poland - to be born in Canada. In 1944, she and her parents moved to Windsor, Ontario, where in 1946 she met and married the man to whom she gave her heart and life, Carl Tarnopolski. In 1948, the family moved to East Selkirk, Manitoba, where Anna resided until being forced by illness to take up residence at Betel Home in Selkirk in 2009. Since 1948, Anna was a faithful member of St. Stanislaus Parish in East Selkirk, and was recently awarded her 40 year pin as a member of the Catholic Women's League of Canada. In 1953, she began her career as a psychiatric nursing assistant at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre, at a time when it was not customary for rural women to be working outside the home. A Prayer Vigil will take place at Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk on Eveline Street on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at Notre Dame Church in Selkirk on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be presided by Archbishop Albert LeGatt, Archbishop of St. Boniface. Principal concelebrants will be Fr. Wojciech Wojtkowiak, o.m.i., pastor of St. Stanislaus Parish, and Father Carl Tarnopolski, Vicar General for the Archdiocese of St. Boniface. Attending priests are invited to concelebrate. Flowers are respectfully declined. Donations may be made in Anna's name to St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Parish in East Selkirk, to the Children's Wish Foundation, or to a charity of one's choice. The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to Notre Dame Church in Selkirk for their hospitality in allowing us the use of the church building for the liturgy, and to all those who shared in Anna's care. • Baba, I love you and will miss you forever. I will miss playing with your hair, and the funny yet direct way you would tell me I had "Zits". I'm sure from now on whenever I get a pimple, I will giggle a bit and think of you. At Christmas time, I will sing softly the one polish song I know, just for you and Gigi. "Ge Shi Betlehem". I'm sure I spelled that wrong!! Anyway, just like the book says "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my Baba you'll be." - Posted by: Heather Pakkala (grandaughter) on: Feb 01, 2014

  • May your mother rest in peace. I will offer a mass for the repose of her Soul. - Posted by: Father Edward Kosa,OMI (Friend of Father Carl) on: Feb 01, 2014
