FREDRICK ALEXANDER SAUNDERS Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Neepawa Hospital, my husband Fred peacefully passed away with me and our children by his side. Fred was born on April 27, 1942 in Winnipeg. He and I were married for over 46 years, raising our family of four children; Diana (Fred), Denise (Bruce), Wil (Meagan) and Rob (Sherry). We are all left with loving, cherished memories of him which help to ease our pain. Also left to remember Fred are our eight grandchildren Michael (Michelle), April (Michael), Krista (Daniel), Erin (Jerren), Jaden, August, Jackson and Ryker, as well as our four great-grandchildren Brookelyn, Sylus, Lucas "Grasshopper" and Logan "Cheerios"; brothers Jim (Sandra) and Don (Arlene); sister Mary and his numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Fred was employed at Motor Coach Industries in Winnipeg for over 30 years. During this time, he also enjoyed and looked forward to our weekends out at the farm in Plumas. In 2001, Fred took early retirement and we moved back to where his heart longed to be - in the country, where he kept himself busy with all the aspects of country life. In Fred's eyes, nothing ran like a John Deere and nothing was built tougher than a Ford. After our farmland was sold and we moved into town in May 2006, you still couldn't keep Fred out of the tractor. When he wasn't in his tractor, you could always see him walking around the neighbourhood with his Century Sam cigar hanging out of his mouth, or busy puttering in the backyard or helping out his neighbour. In May 2013, our lives changed when Fred was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Right until the end, he remained as active as possible and showed us a humour we all never knew he had. Special thanks to my sister Darlene, from every single one of us for the outstanding care she gave us all during our last few days and nights at the hospital. Thanks also to Dr. Ong and the caring staff at the Neepawa Hospital, the CancerCare Team in Winnipeg and our children's employers for allowing them this time to be with their Dad and me. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neepawa Palliative Care, P.O. Box 1240, Neepawa, Manitoba R0J 1H0. Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will take place at a later date. Clarke's Funeral Home, Gladstone-MacGregor www.clarkesfuneralhome.com
