TED TAMILOWICZ February 27, 1951 - January 24, 2014 It is with great sadness that the family announces Ted's passing in Florida. Leaving to mourn and remember the good times are: his wife of 41 years, Eleanor who he cherished, his son Todd who he was so proud of, his daughter-in-law Janice who he thought so highly of, and his two grandchildren Charley and Ryan who he adored. Also, mother-in-law Lydia Popowczak, brother George, sisters-in-law, Helen (Harold) Slaby and Irene Miller (Bill Raycraft) of Stratford, nephews Harry Slaby Jr. (Catherine), Jason and Jamie Tamilowicz, nieces Heather (Marcel) Chevrefils of Pine Falls, Alison (Max) Marquez of Trinidad and Carla Bester, great-nephews, Nigel, Nolan, Nathan, Malachi and Brayden, along with numerous friends. Ted was predeceased by his parents Walter and Lydia, father-in-law Peter Masly, sister-in-law Nina Mantij, and best man at our wedding Frank Bak. Ted worked for General Motors until his retirement and enjoyed being Mr. Warranty Work at his favourite dealership. Ted played football with the Sisler Spartans, baseball with the Beavers, hockey with the old-timers, golf with his buddies and competitive pool volleyball with the family. Ted would fondly remember the times he spent with his young son and friends; the Stead adventures and the Birds Hill biking days. Ted made friends with everyone he met, and he could always make us laugh with his crazy sense of humour. According to Ted's wishes, he is being cremated and his family and close friends will spread some of his ashes on the Florida shores, at Stead farm and in the Hillside Beach grasses beside the pool. Upon the family's return, arrangements will be made for a gathering to celebrate Ted's life. Please refer to the following website for confirmed details. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. http://imillerphoto.com/?pageID=1114285

I only got to know Ted in the past few years when in his retirement he was interested In doing some part time work. Ted was definitely a "people person" so the idea of doing tastings in liquor stores appealed to him. Just a couple of years back, on December 31st, Ted was busy serving customers sparkling wine at the liquor store on Main & Pritchard. At the end of his shift, Ted proceeded to buy and gift a bottle of this wine to every one of the staff members working that day! This describes the Ted that I met to a "T" ..... Thoughtful .... Kind .... and so Generous! ❤️ Heartfelt sympathy to you Eleanor in the loss of "your teddy". - Posted by: Bonnie Dunseith (Co-worker) on: Mar 06, 2014

Ted was a very friendly man. In fact he was the first person I met in Florida as I went out for my walk January 1. It was so nice to meet him and his wife Eleanor. Mom and I were looking forward to a game of bridge with them. I'm so sorry for Eleanor and the family. And hope to see them again. God bless. - Posted by: Chris Meyer (Florida neighbour) on: Feb 12, 2014

Had the pleasure of dealing with Ted on a daily basis in my GM days, always had some kind of amusing story to share. I even had him ship my golf clubs to me in a shipment destined for Vancouver warehouse. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again. - Posted by: ken turner (former friend & co-worker) on: Feb 08, 2014

Careyn and I were one of the last people to visit Ted in Florida before he went to hospital and lapsed into a coma. This was his and his wife Eleanor's first winter away since the both of them retired and they were so enjoying their experiences, making new friends and enjoying all that retirement life could offer. Although Ted could be perceived as having a tough and gruff exterior, those who knew him knew he had a heart of gold. As anyone close to him would attest to, he would always go the distance to help out a friend. He loved people and they loved him. He will be truly missed. For those who are putting off doing things that they want to do, let this be a lesson to not wait another momemt as life is a precious and finite thing and the timing of the end is not always clear. Rest in peace Teddy. - Posted by: Bill & Careyn Head (Friends) on: Feb 06, 2014

Eleanor, please accept our sincerest condolences on the loss of Ted from the lives of you and your family. We got to know him when he took on 'temporary' work at Dawson's and thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with him. He was a man who could make you laugh, and make you think about issues of the day. From the little we knew of him he is well deserving of a celebration of his life. Dawn & Harold Vokey - Posted by: dawn vokey () on: Feb 03, 2014

This was sad to learn of Ted's passing and I hope the family and close friends are all coping well. Ted would have wanted that. Ted's mother Lidia took care of my daughter Marta from when she was very young until she went to school. We always enjoyed spending time with Ted and will cherish those memories. - Posted by: Anna Lakomski/Marta Lakomski (family friend) on: Feb 01, 2014

Very sad to hear of Ted's passing, gone much too early. Over the years we shared good times, a few laughs and a challenge or two. Wish I had a chance to speak with him one more time. We should all connect with friends more frequently. Our deepest condolences to Eleanor, Todd and the entire family. Rest in peace Ted. - Posted by: Court Brooker and family (Friend and work mate.) on: Feb 01, 2014
