DONALD SIMCOE It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald William Simcoe at the Teulon Hospital on January 31, 2014. Dad was born August 30, 1942 in Teulon, MB. He lived, farmed and raised his family in Komarno, MB and was predeceased by his parents Mike and Sophie Shymko. He is survived and sadly missed by his wife Joyce, his children Michael (Kathy), Rhonda, Scott (Margaret), Tim (Susan) and his grandchildren who were his joy in his later life, Renée (Andrew), Aaron, Kalen, Garrett, Kylie, Huxley, Linnea, Thomas and Sarah. He is also survived by his brother Fred (Nettie) of Komarno. Donald grew up on a cattle farm in the town of Komarno, but before he went into full time farming, worked at a fish processing plant in Hay River, N.W.T. in the early sixties and never forgot to mention how tough it made a person to be able to work in 60 below temperatures. Later in the mid-sixties, there was also a stint where Dad had worked for the railroad company and was always proud to mention the fact that he did all the driving on the trips to Saskatoon and back home, while the other guys were snoozing - all he needed was a few Pepsi's beside him and he was good to go. He married Joyce Wasylowski in 1966 and together they raised four children. He continued to cattle farm for many years and in that time made numerous friends and acquaintances of whom he was very proud. Dad seemed to know everybody. He became "Grampy" for the first time in July, 1991 and always had time for his beloved grandchildren who could always expect to be greeted with Smarties or ice cream. Growing up the son of an auctioneer, he loved a good auction sale, and we never knew what Dad would bring home, even in later years when his health had begun to decline. Eventually as Dad fell ill, he spent time at the Hunter Memorial Hospital where he was fondly referred to by staff as "Donny." He maintained close relationships with friends and cousins, and near the end was surrounded by his family. Funeral service will held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Komarno. Viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 with burial to follow at the Parish cemetery. After that, lunch and a time of reminiscing and fellowship will be had at the Komarno Hall. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME TEULON 204-467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
