FRANK CRONSHAW May 27, 1926 - February 9, 2014 On Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Selkirk Betel Home, Dad passed away peacefully, with family by his side. A devoted husband and father, he joined his wife Gwen and son Thor. Left to mourn and remember him are daughter Francine (Russell), son Steven (Kayla) and daughter Nina (Dave); grandchildren Fern, Steven (Cheryl), Alana, Christopher, Shane (Charnelle), Kristjan, Devan, Kenton and Jenna; great-grandchildren Josh, Leelin, Gracie, Leah, and Landon; sister Edith, brother Bud (Marion) and sister Barbara all from Quebec and their respective families; Gwen's niece Shirley (Mike) and nephew, Gerald (Shirley) from Gimli. Dad was born in Valleyfield, Quebec May 27, 1926. On his 16th birthday, (having lied about his age) he joined the Canadian Army and was posted to England to serve the remainder of the war. Upon discharge he worked on "Ciuvie Street" for a short time, then reenlisted in the army. A posting sent him to C.F.B. Gimli where he met his favourite Icelander, Gudny (Gwen) Johnson. They married on Christmas Eve, 1948, and embarked upon several postings, with the addition of four children along the way. In 1957 Dad was posted back to C.F.B Gimli and they moved into town several years later. Dad was very proud of his military career; however in 1967 after twenty-five years of service, joined mom at Cronshaw's Jewellery Store, originally owned by mom's uncle, Dori Thorkelson. Dad took a Watchmaker's course at Red River College and soon after taught himself the art of engraving. Dad enjoyed the business and was proud to say he had worked forty years at the "shop" before he retired. Dad was very active in the Gimli Service Clubs. He was instrumental in having the Viking Statue erected and in 1967, as President of the Chamber of Commerce, had the privilege of assisting of the unveiling of the statue. Dad was a twenty-five year member of the Rotary Club and received a great amount of personal satisfaction working for both clubs. Mom and Dad travelled often and enjoyed themselves; bringing home fun stories with each trip. Dad had a special bond with each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took great pleasure in visits, and news of their lives. Dad felt honoured that he and one of the great-grandchildren were on the cover of the "Islendingadagurinn Program- August 2011". "Dad, you are in our hearts forever. You were the center of our lives." The family sends their thank you to Gimli Hospital during Dad's stay. A heart felt thank you to the entire staff of Betel Home, Selkirk for your wonderful care of Dad and his family. The family wishes to express their appreciation to relatives, friends, and the Gimli Community for their support to our family over the years. In accordance with Dad's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will take place in the spring of 2014 in Gimli. In memory of Dad, if you so choose, please consider a donation to your favourite charity. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
