OLIVE JEAN FIELDS
Date of Passing: Feb 08, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE JEAN FIELDS Peacefully, on February 8, 2014, Olive Jean Fields (née Bodman), age 94, passed away at her home at Tuxedo Villa. She will be forever loved and sadly missed by her children, Allyson Matczuk (Serg) and Terry Fields, grandson Marcus Matczuk (Tracy), Michael, Paul, and many nieces and nephews. Olive was predeceased by her husband Elden in 2007, her grandson Matthew in 2010 and all her brothers and sisters. Olive was born in Elstow, SK, on September 29, 1919, the middle of nine children. She was her dad's helper on the farm and learned to ride horses and harness a team at a young age. She always knew when it was time to dig potatoes because that was how she spent her birthdays as a child. After moving to Winnipeg during the war years she met and married Elden in 1942. They spent their last 50 years together living on Mulvey Avenue. Olive loved to visit with everyone and always had time to play simple, old-fashioned games and read a bedtime story with her grandchildren. She particularly enjoyed her time at the cottage in Matlock, especially when the whole family was around for a rousing game of Rummoli or Yahtzee. Olive made the best biscuits, baked the flakiest apple pies, created meticulously crafted petit point pictures, always completed the Saturday crossword puzzle in ink, read two newspapers a day, and knit garments and afghans for everyone. She was an avid sports fan of any sport and it wasn't unusual for her to have a ball game on the radio and a football game on the television. For many years she enjoyed researching and keeping records on the family's history, in particular, exploring artifacts of Dr Barnardo's Home Children, since her father had been one of the children sent to Canada in the 1880's. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Olive's memory to the Lion's Eye Bank, 320 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 2W6. According to Olive's wishes no formal service will be held and internment of her ashes will take place in the spring. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715
