FLORENCE AGNES SUTHERLAND (FOSTER)
Date of Passing: Feb 03, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE AGNES SUTHERLAND (nee FOSTER) Mom passed away peacefully at her residence in Eriksdale, MB on February 3, 2014. Mom is lovingly remembered by sons, Garry (friend Joanne), Brian (friend Cheryl) and Ken (Diane) and daughters Elaine Robak (Syd) and Carole Guy (Robert); also eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her very good friends Harry Warwick, Olga Duncan and Pat Juniper. She is predeceased by her parents Charlie and Winnie Foster, her husband Einar in 2000, daughter-in-law Sherry in 1997 and daughter-in-law Jayne in 2003. Mom was born in Somerset, MB on July 7, 1923 and received her schooling in Somerset and Treherne. After graduating she attended Manitoba Teacher's College in Winnipeg. She taught on permit at various schools in southern Manitoba and at Agriculture School east of Mulvihill. It was while she was teaching there that she met Einar; they were married in March 1945, settled on the family farm and began raising a family. Even though very busy with farm work, she found time to teach Garry in Grade one and, from Christmas on, for Grades two and three due to difficulties in getting to Mulvihill School in winter. Once the kids, with the exception of Carole, had moved away to jobs in Winnipeg, Mom went back into teaching at Eriksdale Elementary School. She taught for some 15 years, finally retiring in 1985. Prior to Dad's illness, they were able to escape parts of winter in BC for several years. After Dad's passing in 2000, she lived alone on the farm for some 10 years until she made the decision to move into town where she was very content. Mom always had time for everyone even when extremely busy on the farm. She was a great cook and had the ability to come up with a meal at very short notice. Also she was known for her beautiful flowers and a huge garden. She always knitted and kept us equipped with wool mittens. In town Mom was always involved in The New Horizons, cribbage days, jam session evenings and The Red Cross. She loved cribbage and was always ready for a game with anyone who was interested. The family would like to thank everyone who helped Mom in many, many ways during the last few years. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Eriksdale Recreational Centre with Melanie Kauppila officiating. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren can consider themselves Honorary Pallbearers for their grandmother that day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Remembering Florence, for the "Special Lady" she was... all the things mentioned in her obituary are so True... Over the years, from when we were "5 mile, plus, neighbours" to when we occasionally met in Eriksdale at certain functions, we always had some real nice Chats.. yes, she was a very Special Lady! My Sympathy and Caring thoughts go out to You, her Family... I'm sure you will feel the Loss terribly.
