Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDELTRAUT MARTHA ECKHARDT October 18, 1934 - February 16, 2014 Peacefully and surrounded by her loving family, Edeltraut Martha Eckhardt (née Krumma), passed away in Winnipeg, MB at the Riverview Health Centre on February 16, 2014. Edeltraut was predeceased by her parents, Martha (née Smyra) and Paul Krumma, and her husband Ewald Hans Ferdinand Eckhardt. She will be missed by her loving daughter Deborah (Brian), son Brian (Shirley) and grandchildren Eric, Kara, Kirstyn and Lucas. Edeltraut also leaves behind, her brother Manfred (Rosie), and sisters Hilda (Erich), Ruth, Ingrid (Fred) and Barbara, her sister-in-law Elisabeth (Robert, Susan, Julie, Jim), as well as numerous relatives in Germany. Edeltraut was born in Schmart, Germany and grew up as a little girl in Stendal-Schonhausen. As the eldest sibling and a young girl during the war, Edeltraut learned about responsibility to the family early in life, helping her mother and grandmother care for her brothers and sisters. In 1952, Edeltraut met her future husband Ewald and in 1957 they were married in Karlsruhe. In 1959, they came to Winnipeg to start a family and a life in Canada. Edeltraut was a generous woman who loved her family. She worked tirelessly volunteering at her children's activities, watching every game, play or pageant, and helping with school. She was an accomplished seamstress who made wonderful clothes for the family and costumes for her children. She was a great cook and many people looked forward to her authentic German dishes. Some of our fondest memories are coming home from school at lunch and sitting down as a family at the dinner table. Edeltraut loved her grandchildren and took great joy in spending time with them. Her grandchildren fondly remember the times they spent with their Oma in the playground or shopping and the ice cream or treats that would always follow. Her kindness and generosity to her grandchildren will always be remembered. Edeltraut and Ewald were both deeply involved in church and congregation life at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and her faith was always a source of strength and comfort for all of us. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut, led by Pastor Peter Lurvey. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Riverview Health Centre who provided so much comfort and excellent care. The family graciously declines flowers and asks that if you so desire, please make a donation to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice in memory of Edeltraut.
